Rant warning....maybe someone in the biz can enlighten me but what the he!! is happening to all the old women in my town? I'm in a fairly affluent area with lots of retirees and omg their skin looks like tissue paper with an expressionless stoma for a mouth. Is is surgery, sandblast dermabrasion, botox, lip fillers? All the above? :scrm: These are trim, healthy what used to be very attractive age appropriate women and now they look like freaks. Not a wrinkle on their face but sheesh they are pulled so tight its a miracle they aren't sporting a gootee.
You are so wrong- I over see a Bariatric Program. I have attended intensive training and review actual patient charts so my information is not hear say or second hand evidence. The criteria is difficult to qualify and many patients get turned away for not meeting the criteria. This includes a pysch exam and many preoperative visits. The criteria is evaluated by ABS and the ACS were the charts are reviewed often there is very little wiggle round if any.
Good for you.
Remember this is a big world and things that happen at your job is not the standard around the USA or the world.
The criteria in my research is:
Do you have insurance that will cover this procedure? Or do have the Cash Price to pay for this procedure?
In Canada, Bariatrics is NOT considered a plastic surgery. There is a review process and pysch assessment in the pre-op clinics. There must be documentation that the patient has tried various weight loss methods and been unsuccessful. What happens in third world countries and in western Europe is totally different. The UK and Germany will fund bariatrics under their public systems provided the assessment criteria is met. The all mighty dollar is not the final call in health care.
The human body is full of pipes and the plumbing often goes wrong. But alot the the problems caused are emotional or psychological.
Fiona is not considered int eh USA either....

In 2005 it is mandated that all facilities to be accredited. So wither redranger's research is faulty or the surgeons his friends and family is committing Medicare fraud and should be in jail. Or Texas is not part of the USA.

Did I ever say anything about Medicare or Medicad?
It was thru Private Insurance or Paid via Cash..........
Private insurance uses Medicare or even stricter standards. If they Private paid any got second class care they have a legal issue.
Sorry this is the standard of care. Sorry if your family and friends have made poor medical choices or I suspect they haven't told you the whole story. As I mentioned before you only have access to your own medical record unless you are the medical power of attorney or a guardian so who really know what went on behind close doors.

i personally am fine with taking all the lines, grays and folds that go along w/aging.
i take care of myself by working out and eating well.
and i'm perfectly ok with looking like a healthy 50 yo woman.
admittedly, not very many feel that way.
i 'think' marla/viva is the only one who seems to feel the same.
no one is judging anyone.
if it takes plastics to boost your confidence, go for it.
i just wish we didn't live in such a plastic society, where all the superficial ideals are revered.
but, i recognize that living where we do (america), only serves to augment the 'chic' of youth.
i just wish there wasn't such shame in aging.
