Visa Bulletin Oct 09
They let her self schedule. She has to work at least 3 days per week, and up to 5 days. She has herself scheduled till the end of October. Nothing makes he special, it's just the way it is done where she works, I fassume it's the same way in most hospitals. Also on Fridays at her work, if they are running low on employees they offer a $150 bonus if you work that day if you are not already scheduled to work. She seems to really love her job, and is very happy working. It seems like I made the right choice to let her finish school in Philippines, even though we had to wait almost 2 years before she was able to come to USA.

Visa Bulletin Oct 09
My wife had a 4 months training / orientation period. The hospital started my wife about 1 month earlier than the New Grad Class Trainee, since she already had her RN licenses. By the time orientation started for her, she already had 1 month of floor training. She completed her orientation last month. It worked out good for her, They allowed my wife to work days instead of night shift. Right now she is working 5 days per week and working both Saturday/Sunday since it pays an extra $6 per hour. The nursing thing is really working out better than I ever expected. After being there 2 months they gave her and others RN's a 12% Pay Increase, Kinda like a Cost Of Living Raise. I think she is due another raise next month, Going from RN1 to RN2. Her work said she can work as little or as much OT (up to 60 hours), as she wants. Thats almost like working for yourself, since you can dictate what days you want to work.

Glad my wife came over via K1. She is working 60 hours per week, thats as many hours as her Manager will let her work. It seems like there is a shortage of skilled and trained nurses in our area

NCLEX- California
I remember seeing a couple post on her as well reagarding that. I can only tell you what I know First hand. In the last couple of months, I have assisted 3 student nurses from PI who are registering for NCLEX thru California BON. They submitted Explantion of why they didn't have local licenses, they were all her on K1 or K3 Visas. California BON accepted thier explantion and they have been approved to take NCLEX

NCLEX- California
I have help a couple of Philippines Graduate Nurses apply for NCLEX via Cali BON. Neither had local license, and they wrote explanation to CA BON why they didn't have a local licenses. I don't concur that you need a local license from PI for California.

retrogression vs immigrant visa
It all depends on what type of Visa you apply for.

" There was a thead in Texas Section about a certain "XXXXXX Nursing Institute" and the students were complaining about people cheating on tests and not being kicked out, and the bulk of their clinicals were bathing patients, It seems like the thread got pulled to another section But you don't see me or others saying "US Schools are infrerior" becasue of a few. Just like some people dislike Police officers because their are a couple bad eggs in the mix. It's not fair and wrong to label all just because of a select few.

So all these exist and are part of Nursing in USA. Maybe it's just part of being a Nurse, Either you can take it or you can't, is it the weeding process Why don't educators have them prepared for what they are going to face in "Real Life"

Are their Nursing School in PI just for the money, Sure there are, I don't remember ever seen a post where someone has argued that it doesn't exist. But it gets thrown almost daily in this forum section I am sure there are Nursing School in many other countries that are thier just for the money, and I am sure their are some in USA. Should that fare less than 50% in PI should be looked at and standard apporved, I agree but it is what it is in PI. In PI people have to be a certain age or certain height or skin complexion to get a certain job, Is it fair or right, Of course not but it happens and it is the way it is. I am amazed that ads for jobs say: Applicant must be between 21 to 25, Light Complexion, a minimum height and please include photo in Application.

I think more Philippines would speak up, but it's not their nature or culture to argue or disagree in public places or forums. Maybe we should discuss why so many U.S. Trained Nurses quit or can't handle working in USA, and to me the blame should go on the Education System that is followed in US. In my opinion, they don't train or prepare US Nurse for real life and working conditions they will be working in. Philippines Nurses are trained to work in conditions they drive away US nurses in USA.

Catching Up. USA/Canada/England and other Western Cultures are the minority not majority as far as World Population. Don't assume just because it's the way or custom where you live it's the same around the world USA granted Philippines Independence after WW2, and they could of easily been another state just like Hawaii. Check out Bataan Death March and you will see how much US and Philippines Troops suffered during WW 2. I for one couldn't find Philippines on the map a couple of years ago, I took a trip over there to see a house my cousin had built, and I had little to no knowlege of PI. If you talk to any older people men who served in the Military in your area, You will find they know a lot of PI. More than likely they fought or trained over there. My Neighbor trained in PI for the Korean War.

Funny How Hospitals in USA have Philippine Nurses working there, It says something for their education system and work ethics. I have read on this board about Nursing Programs in USA where people say in their Clinicals they clean bed pans or bath patients, Now that is crazy.

Thats Just It. Americans know little to nothing about PI. Philippines is literally on the other side of the world from USA. Are you aware that 10 hours after Pearl Harbor was bombed, the Japaneese bombed Manila. Douglas MacArthur is National Hero in PI. Just like in USA Streets and Schools are named after him. Almost Every School Child in PI knows the Mac Arthur Famous Saying - "I Shall Return" When I go and stay 3 weeks in PI, I will doubt I will see more than 3 Americans my whole trip. I go and stay in the Mindanao Region and the CIA has travel warning about that area, but it's safe as it can be. Philippines is an untapped resource for Nursing Education.

Agreed. But in this case it is best. Philippines is like the 51st state of USA. Where else can you go and everything is in English, English is the business language, Values and Culture of USA like we had back in the 1950's. Constitution and Political System is almost a mirror image of USA. Americans and America is highly thought of in PI, It will make you Proud To be an American after leaving PI. Friendly People, Very Educated in general, and Nursing Schools where students go to school and it's a privilge not a right, they take schooling in general a lot more serious than we do in USA. Families will sacarife land, or go abroad to work just so the children will be able to get a outstanding education.
