Overweight

Published

Ok guys, I have been a nurse since 2007 and since then I have gained about 50lbs.

Yes, I know I am not lying. It is very true. I used to fit in to xs scrubs. I work nights because it is convenient for my family and babysitting and my husbands schedule.

Tomorrow I start the dvd beachbody programs and hope for the best. It makes me sad that even at work people around me comment on how much weight I have gained. I can't fit into my clothes.

working nights I always find excuses to eat sweets or other bad things for weight.

My first thought: you added 50 lbs to an XS? You can't be that fat.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but if you previously weighed 120 lbs, then yeah, 50 lbs is pretty significant. She didn't say she was "that fat" but that she is overweight. I used to be in an XS scrub at my lowest as well, and now, 50 lbs heavier, I'm technically "obese".

XS scrubs aren't really that small - scrubs are very forgiving. I am 40 lbs heavier than I was at my lightest and I wear XS scrubs. 13 pounds of those have been since I bought the scrubs in the first place and they still fit. I don't think there's many types of clothing where you could gain almost 15 pounds and still wear the same clothing size, but scrubs are thankfully one of them because I'm too broke to buy more...

I hear that. Seems like there is always birthday cake or cookies or boxes of candy around. I take my lunch, and I am on weight watchers, so I will take sources of protein, and fresh fruits and vegs, since fruits and vegs are free on weight watchers. I will pack a shelled boiled egg, already salted, a container of lowfat yogurt, a stick of weight watchers Jalopena cheese, a peach, a baggie of fresh blueberries, a baggie of celery sticks, etc. Buy fresh fruits and vegs, prepare them, put them in zip lock baggies, so when yr packing yr lunch all you have to do is grab a couple baggies. Fruit is sweet and will satisfy your sugar craving plus the protein snacks will keep your energy up.

How tacky that people are commenting on your weight gain. Good luck on your attempts to lose weight.

We once had this old doctor who walked up to my ANM and said "LINDA! You're PREGNANT!" She wasn't. Her last baby was 2 years prior.

OP, and anyone else, there's a Weight Loss thread over on The Blue Side, just sayin'. :whistling:

MEAL PREP! Try easy to eat meals that are high in proteins. Grilled chicken/fish, seasoned rice, sauteed veggies. Prep your meals on your days off and bring them with you for the night shift. Google a good 30 minute general strength/body weight exercise regime and hit it at least 3-4 x's a week. Most importantly, remember that if you don't like something, CHANGE IT. Think your nose is too big, get a nose job. Hate the way your body looks and feels? Work out and eat right. You deserve to live your very best life. Good luck with everything girl.

I work in bariatrics and I have had weight loss surgery. I wish I knew as much pre op as I do now. 50# is totally doable, it's when you are 100# overweight that it is almost too overwhelming.

You know what the real key to weight loss is? It's not exercise, it's diet. Cut out every single WHITE carb in your diet. All of them, no cheats. Beans and veggies are fine! But flour, sugar, rice, pasta, and potatoes..... all foods that cause weight gain. I don't have my patients do Atkins, I have them do a "no white carb" diet. You actually go through a sort of withdrawal when you back off the flour and sugar. Cranky, moody, nasty, short tempered, you have carb cravings GALORE! After 3-5 days it begins to die down and your energy comes back in way you forgot from before you gained weight.

It doesn't cost anything to lose weight, you do not need WW, Jenny Craig, Beachbody, ItWorks, SkinnyFiber, Herbalife, none of those. Just eat clean, that's all. Nothing else.

Potatoes is the rub.
