Overweight

Published

Ok guys, I have been a nurse since 2007 and since then I have gained about 50lbs.

Yes, I know I am not lying. It is very true. I used to fit in to xs scrubs. I work nights because it is convenient for my family and babysitting and my husbands schedule.

Tomorrow I start the dvd beachbody programs and hope for the best. It makes me sad that even at work people around me comment on how much weight I have gained. I can't fit into my clothes.

working nights I always find excuses to eat sweets or other bad things for weight.

I am sorry your coworkers are being so rude and hurtful about your weight. I too have a major sweet tooth especially at night! Pre-packing your lunch and avoiding vending machines will help.

I am still in nursing school, but work as a CNA. I used to be tiny, but after two kids and studying I have piled on the weight. I also have 50 pounds to loose, on top of the 17 I have lost :).

It is hard for me because where I work we get free meals, and the free meal is whatever the residents had for lunch/dinner. They are trying to keep the residents weights up (which they do a great job at, all our residents have gained since coming to our facility), but in return they are plumping up the CNA's. Everything is made with full milk, sugar etc. They also like their baked goods, and get fresh baked bread every day.

I work evenings so this is what I do:

8 am- fruit

10 ish - cottage cheese/yoghurt etc

1 ish - something carby, oatmeal, sandwich

3-4 -protein shake

7-8 - huge salad

I drink a lot of water and unsweetened ice tea. I cut out all pop and try to avoid the sweets.

17 down 50 to go!!!!

I'm a full-time BSN student and have a toddler, so while I am not use to my nursing shifts yet - I can say that this is the best workout source out there. It's a husband and wife team who make an awesome variety of workout videos that you can do at home (and no, I don't work for them!). After giving birth to my son, I started their videos 2-3 times a week, and now am up to 6 times a week. In order to get them done, I get up between 4 and 5am so that I can workout for an hour. I also purchased a power block set to do the strength training, and I'm in the best shape of my life. I weighed 175 on the day of delivery and was down to 120 six months later, so I can attest to the power of working out from home! I love that I can just roll out of bed and don't have to worry about what I'm wearing or driving to the gym, it's much easier to get motivated when I can break a sweat in the comfort of my living room.

I read a few people recommend meal prep - this is HUGE. I do meal prep once a week, and eat a whole food/plant based diet (vegan) and have more energy than ever. There are a lot of recipes on the internet for great make-ahead meals. I make my own nut butters, granola bars, salad dressings, popsicles, hummus, etc. (I'd also recommend purchasing a high speed blender like a Vitamin or Blendtec - I have a Vitamix and it completely changed my perspective on food). I work from home now, but my husband works 70 hours a week and it's not easy or fun always, but I feel better than ever so it's definitely worth it.

I wish you the best of luck on your fitness journey!

I'm actually going to switch to FB & purchase a Powerblock too. I have used a few of their work outs & wow! They are great, I love them!

I'm getting close to menopause, and could stand to lose about 50 pounds. Last May, my doctor suggested I give up soda and wheat. It's been a rough summer, but I've followed her advice. My meals are 85% plant based. AND my weight went up by a pound. So I bought the 21 day fix, and I'm so out of shape that I can only do 15min of the routine 3-4 days a week. The program came with a coach, and I explained that due to my age/sex/working nights/hormones/etc that losing the weight comes with more of a challenge (note- I did not say impossible, I'm just being realistic). His response was to tell me how wonderful 60 year old male fitness guru Tony Horton is at staying in shape. Like that is comparable :)

My D is low, my thyroid is doing just fine, my insulin and A1c are also just fine, my lipids are great, I'm just fat and hate to exercise. My Fitbit arrives tomorrow. Early posts mentioned a challenge on The Blue Side. Where is that?

I was 345 pounds and couldn't work anymore I've worked nights my whole career. I downloaded the lose it app to my phone and have lost 120 pounds in a year and a half. It's the only thing I have tried that was successful. Now I'm 50 pounds from my goal and doing great. Try it.
