Nurse's Week Gifts from Employers

Nurses Relations

With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?

All that matters is that Cinnabon will give you a free nom if you show them your employee ID.

I haven't worked during nurses' week yet but last year we received a reusable bad like you use at the grocery store. The gift was fine but we had to sign that it was received to ensure that every nurse received one and only one of these was embarrassing.

Oh wow. Just wow.

Back when my facility was still handing that stuff out, we had to sign too- so that they could tax us on the monetary value of the gift.

Not a thing so far. Last year we got a bottle of water and a dollar store ink pen but not a thing this year. For Administrative professional day there was a collection of money so that she could be given a card with cash but nothing for us. Oh well.

Nurses Week at many of my jobs had turned into "All Allied Health Professionals And Volunteers Week." We wouldn't want anyone to feel left out now, would we? (Even though some of the groups who felt entitled to participate in "Nurses Week" had their own special week.)

Usually we got gewgaws with the corporate logo on it and junk food. Sometimes there were ice cream sundae bars!

That's exactly how it is at my hospital. It's "Healthcare Worker Week". Everyone gets a free meal and a gift. But don't worry, the PT, RT, OT etc get their own week later in the year. Heaven forbid you single out just the nurses🙄

No freakin way....

This made me think back to when my old facility used to give us gift cards as bonuses (such as $20 to a supermarket). While I appreciated anything, I was a little taken aback when I went to use the card and it was rejected because it was invalid. Now, if I had also been forced to pay the government for the valueless gift card I would have been steaming.

Since my current job wraps "hospital week" into Nurse's Week, ironically I take days off and enjoy all the perks from Starbucks, Chick-fil-A and Cinnabon and enjoy my days off, and then pick up my "gift" that I don't use.

At previous employers, I received gift cards, blankets, beach towels, massages, handmade personal gifts.

We received emails from two upper-management people. The emails said, essentially, "Hey! You nurses are great! We are so glad you're here!" :sarcastic: Usually we receive things like travel mugs and pens.

I got an email that there are free waffles on Wednesday IF we donate a book. We can also PAY $1 to wear jeans all week instead of just Fridays...yippee

It's Healthcare Week where I work:rolleyes:
