Nurse's Week Gifts from Employers

Nurses Relations

Published

With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?

Nurses' Day is patronizing. There is no "Toilet Cleaners Day", no "Garbage Collectors' Day" and no "Street Sweepers'" Day. We all do are job and we get paid. If you want to appreciate me, treat people with respect.

No offense to the workers you mentioned but what we do saves lives. There is also no Aunts and uncles day either. Doesn't mean that mothers day should be abolished.

I got an assignment. "Discuss what culture of safety means to you"./QUOTE]

Oh, HELL no !!

They bought everyone a new cardio III stethoscope.

Is this sarcasm? I sure hope not, that's quite the gift!

$5 to the hospital cafeteria, a scavenger hunt (who has time for that at work?), and some sort of stair climb event...

I hate all those stupid scavenger hunts. Office staff/admin always get it, since they are sitting at their computer all day already. I open my e-mail and see 10 hints and 10 winners before I even even new it was going on.

Their fun little games they get to play while we work.

I think they're doing popcorn a few days next week which means we get old, cold, stale popcorn that the night house supervisor has to bring around. And a free lunch one day so we would get an old, cold plate lunch that I wouldn't eat anyway. Can always feel the love they have for us vampires.

Yup, night shift always gets the shaft on a lot of that stuff.

Our hospital did nothing for nurses week, just a few e-mails from admin. One of the floor nurses did make some cake and brought it up one day for all the nurses on duty, but it was her own personal deal.

They are doing stuff for hospital week though, Ice cream one day, breakfast tacos another, photo cart (not sure what that is), free pretzels one day, sandwiches for lunch, cookies one afternoon.

Because some have none, no one can have any? That's awfully catastrophic and black and white thinking.

That was an accidental upvote.

Got ice cream as I work in a school, for teacher appreciation week on Fri (which was Nurses Day). Let's see what happens on Wed of this week, which is School Nurses Day. Imma bet nada. Would love to be proven wrong.

Yes, same here. There was "Staff Appreciation Week" last week as to not exclude the paras, aides, cafeteria workers and custodians. Heaven forbid we have a special week for teachers, with their college degrees, state certifications and countless hours (and dollars) spent on their students.

Anyway, there was food, raffles, special jeans days. I had one student give me a Sheetz gift card on Friday which was nice. I'm interested to see what happens on Wednesday, as well. My guess is nothing. Which is okay.
