With nurse's week being kicked off today, I'm seeing posts on social media about things people are getting from employers. Everything from a tote bag with the employer's logo to a bottle of wine (can I work there?!). I'm not working til Tuesday so I won't know what, if anything, my employer has going. I know this topic has been done in the past and some people have mixed feelings-- ie they'd rather their employer spend the money on better staffing. But it could be a fun topic too, so what'd ya get?
My employer is having a breakfast party one day, a lunch party another, and manicures another. They are being held in the administrative buildings, so no staff nurses will have time to leave the floor and get over there and back since its a pretty good walk to get there. And they seem to have forgotten we are not allowed to wear NAIL POLISH. So like last year, we will see all the pictures on the intranet of the management enjoying the parties without us.
Lol yup! Managers always get everything.
A few years all of us nurses got a letter from our employer saying how bad the economy was, how they have had to close branch offices and cut branch employee hours...and that "Hey, Happy Nurse's Week". We appreciate everything that you do for our clients, now can you please sign and return the form below checking if 'yes' you will continue to work for us for $1/hr less, or 'no', please don't schedule me after such and such date.....HAPPY NURSES WEEK!
Nurses Week at many of my jobs had turned into "All Allied Health Professionals And Volunteers Week." We wouldn't want anyone to feel left out now, would we? (Even though some of the groups who felt entitled to participate in "Nurses Week" had their own special week.)
Usually we got gewgaws with the corporate logo on it and junk food. Sometimes there were ice cream sundae bars!

Nothing. Nada. Not even a "Happy Nurses' Day" or "thank you". Not a potluck. Nothing. They do have celebrations for lab and for radiology. Guess I picked the wrong profession.
