No gifts from the Drs???

Nurses General Nursing

We were talking over the weekend that this year we did not get one single gift from the Docs...In years past we would get cookie trays, or meat and cheese trays, cheeseballs and crackers or fruit baskets. This year?? Nada.

Someone then said it is because the drug reps are now no longer to give treats of food or gifts to the Dr offices---is that correct? I am sure we were just being re-gifted per say from the Docs in the past years, but that was fine with us---the basket of oranges did not care if an ICU nurse ate them of an office nurse ate them!!!

Do the Docs in your hospitals do anything special for the nursing staff?

Our gift from the Dr's on the hollidays, is they round later in the day, and make real quick rounds without a lot of orders!

Most of our Doc's arn't of the religion that celebrates christmas. And I know we don't take into account when Ramadan or Hannukah are if we are paging the Dr's in the middle of the night.

Funny you say that....I think 98% of the stuff we got was from Doc's that do not celebrate Christmas. Nice holiday cheer!

We had no holiday bonus from our hospital this year money is just so tight and they are saving it for bailing out this year if they need to, I personnally dont think it is going to be as bad as predicted but we will have to wait and see.

Holiday Bonus? I have never received a bonus. Most I have gotten is a free meal.

Agree with Calla..... our medical director sent a HUGE box of middle eastern pastries (which he does every year) My mouth is watering just remembering it. In LTC we also get big tins of popcorn from the lab, bakery cookies from the X-ray folks, and fruit from podiatrist. Pharmacy sends bags of dark chocolate truffles that are "to die for". Surprisingly, families brought containers of cookies and brownies. As I waddle down the hall to thank them!..........

I've never expected the docs to give us anything, nor do I expect to get them anything. The L&D nurses got a huge plasma TV from one of the OB docs one year. Their OR tech came over to our unit and sort of lorded it over us that they got it cuz they worked "so hard", (implying that we didn't) and that we should "tell your docs to get us a TV!!!"

I needed help pulling my jaw up off the floor!! Truly, I wanted to slap her silly. If their docs want to give them something terrific, great, but I would never expect it!! It would inappropriate to think that the docs OWED us anything. JMO!

Life events are different, imo, than Christmas. We have gotten wedding/baby gifts for docs as well as co-workers, and taken collections for co-workers who've had a death in the family. And they've kicked in likewise.

We each got $50 gift cards from our medical director - but there are only 10 of us in the program. Some of us pitched in and got him a nice bottle of wine, but a couple of my cheapo colleagues didn't give us anything.

Our hospital does have a conflict of interest policy which prohibits accepting anything from a company rep, unless it's associated with an educational event (eg. providing a meal at a training session). We aren't even allowed to display company names on pens/lanyards etc. Company reps aren't even allowed onsite until they have completed an online ethics module!

Our ER doctors gave every nurse, & tech a country ham......sliced & de-boned.

Our hospital gave $50 & $25.....depending on full or part time status.

I did not expect it but did appreciate it!

The company I work for sends you a list of places you can choose a $25.00 gift card for....which I thought was a fantastic Idea. This year our choices were Target, Fred Myers, A Local movie Theatre and Starbucks I believe. I was thankful for that! I have never worked anywhere we got anything for Chritmas so I thought that was very thoughtful! :)

A country ham??? sliced and de-boned??? CRB, I am jealous with a capital J !! :p Yum yum!

In my department we recieved a basket of fruit from the Dr's, a tray of cookies from the cardiac cath lab, two boxes of cookies from the medical residents and numerous cards from other departments and dr. Do we expect this no, do we enjoy the thought, if not the cookies yes. I think I enjoy the cards expressing their gratitude just as much as all of the goodies.

We received gift certificates for Macy's from our doctors. To be honest, gift giving is not important to me. We are in a recession, and I am sure that this is also affecting the physicians. I'd rather have a cordial working relationship with the physicians rather than a gift, but that is me.
