No gifts from the Drs???

Nurses General Nursing

We were talking over the weekend that this year we did not get one single gift from the Docs...In years past we would get cookie trays, or meat and cheese trays, cheeseballs and crackers or fruit baskets. This year?? Nada.

Someone then said it is because the drug reps are now no longer to give treats of food or gifts to the Dr offices---is that correct? I am sure we were just being re-gifted per say from the Docs in the past years, but that was fine with us---the basket of oranges did not care if an ICU nurse ate them of an office nurse ate them!!!

Do the Docs in your hospitals do anything special for the nursing staff?

Specializes in psych. rehab nursing, float pool.

There is a doctor in our system who sent to each unit a flower arrangement. Others gave goodies to eat.

Our hospital system which usually gives a $20.00 gift card, this year came up with a great idea. The $20.00 for each employee was donated to our Emergency Fund for Employee hardships. The total came to around $170,000.00. There was an option that if an employee in fact wanted to receive their individual gift card they could do so.

This fund is terrific, we have had staff who have needed it to pay for hardships due to hurricanes in the past, unexpected funeral etc. I am greatful this fund it available for those in need.

one dr. each year has a very nice catered lunch for they day shift staff. :banghead: how rude. does he think the patients magically take care of themselves at night?

usually night shift gets jacked out of anything that is brought in. even if it is intended for night shift. in previous years we had a party tray that was brought in one for days and one for nights. day shift ate them both. actually day shift split the one intended for nights among themselves to take home.:eek:

Night Shift does not count. One of our docs brings in a turkey for the holidays. It is a nice gesture, but by the time I come into work at 730 pm, that turkey is old , dry and stale and probably has psueodomonas growing on it by then.

The way I look it, I get paid to do my job, fairly well I might add. We do a secret santa thing. Good enough for me. This year i splurged for my secret santa and got her the newest Batman DVD, Bath and body works, a scented candle.
