Enjoy your summer!!! And save money! My school is a summer start so I spent the past few months working and raking in the savings and cozy time in bed with my hubby and 3 year old. I already adjusted them to the fact that cozy time for the next two years will consist of a foot rub(mine) while my nose is buried in a textbook ;). I'm afraid the only way I'll be enjoying the sun this summer will be windows down in gridlock traffic as I travel into Brooklyn from long island everyday! (sigh). BUT my advice if you insist on prepping yourself, do something light like Medical Terminology! You won't regret it. Pick up Medical Terminology The Language of Healthcare by Marjorie Canfield Willis. It's divided by body systems so its super organized and you can make flash cards and lay out on the beach with them! Good luck! And congrats on nursing school it's a fete we've all faced just getting in!

We were given homework at orientation. About 39 chapters of reading out of our Fundamentals book.

Other than that, I'm spending time picking out shoes, getting a stethoscope and engraving it, reading a book about success in NS, buying a NS planner, taking CPR, and getting my home life in order so my family can survive without me for two years.

Trying to relax is easy to say but hard to do with you're Type A!

Relax relax relax. You won't have time once school starts.

If you have any tasks or errands that you have been putting off, get them done now! Take care of anything that you can ahead of time. Nursing school is a wild and awesome ride- and it can be all consuming. Setting up automatic bill payments, sprinklers on a timer, whatever you can do to make your life outside of nursing school on "auto drive" so that you can concentrate on nursing school! Best of luck and congratulations!!

I'm in the same position. I start in 3 months and I feel like I need to do something about it...I am fixing the house and making one of the bedrooms my official study room (not too cozy because I will fall asleep). Make sure my kids are up to date with their medical/dental/optometry appointments. Take care of my wife while she finishes Pharmacy School this year, so she can take care of me while I try to go through the program.

Since I am doing a career change from Information Technology to healthcare, I think the hardest transition for me will be the fulltime school mentality (academically) without working a fulltime job. Best of luck!

Enjoy the rest of the summer, because once you start school you will be wishing you were back on break!

Relax and enjoy the time while you have it. Once your program starts you will wish you spent your time enjoying life outside of nursing school. Don't read anything out of your texts and spend as much time with friends and family as you can. Good luck in school!!!!

I agree with everyone...just relax and enjoy your summer! You may not have that luxury for awhile. Good luck!

Do whatever you want, then say goodbye to that concept for a while.

I'm going to go rogue here and say get yourself into a routine (if you don't already have one). It doesn't have to be strict, but if you don't have a lot of structure in your life now, making the transition to the highly structured existence ahead is going to come as a shock. Save yourself having to make big adjustments to your lifestyle once school starts by getting into the habit now.

Exactly that. Relax as much as possible because it's not going to happen much in school!
