  1. Just a few thoughts. Would you consider pursuing nursing/crna after retiring from the PD? That way you can concentrate fully on your career choices. It sounds like your in the civil service department so you could be retiring quite young depending on when you entered. Secondly, my brother is a FDNY firefighter and yes while he works two 24 hour tours he still gets mandated often. What would you do if you had classes/clinicals etc. I went to nursing school with a medic. He took a leave of absence to do school then went back to work full time and works nursing per diem.
  2. Party foul!!! While these mindless twits sit around sipping coffee and gossiping we're actually working to make a difference....
  3. Love this thread! I've had similar thoughts about being a nurse in Disney or even on a cruise ship lol.
  4. I always drive over the speed limit. Coffee. All. Day. I almost never take my vitamins. I self diagnose and treat accordingly. I could eat steak every day.
  5. Lol. It definately is ok to feel a bit "fainty"during new experiences. Especially if your expected to be a part of the process! I nearly passed out the first time I cleaned up a c-diff blowout!!! I made my way over to the chair the patient had just been sitting in! I didn't care! I just needed to sit! Lol The other time for me was in nursing school in the newborn nursery under those heat lamps. It was just too warm for me. But now in the OR nearly passing out is the first trimester right of passage.... At least at my job!
  6. Congrats on your new job! first question: Did you eat breakfast/hydrate? Second question: Are you pregnant?
  7. Isn't this the same person who says they don't go on these "trips", and just ends up picking up the pieces on Monday morning. You know what, I give up...... I thought this was going to be a great thread til I opened it. Kinda like that acquaintance that when you see them at a distance you begin to evade..... Taking wagers for a timeframe for the next wild story that has nothing to do with nursing!!
  8. Been following this thread all weekend and officially give up somewhere around post 130. OP is a boarding school nurse now, no? My timeline is reading that his experiences were almost 20 years ago. Doesn't that just make this all a MOOT point considering "culture" wherever we all may be has definately come leaps and bounds in the past two decades...... Do European patients/hospitals/ etc still have these chaperone policies/discomfort with male nurses? This thread and this poster has sucked the life out of me but it been real peeps
  9. Oh darn and here I thought this thread was going to be about crazy parents lol!!!
  10. Compression socks can be covered by your insurance if the compression you need is 20mmHg or more. But you have to find a provider in your area that will size you and prescribe them!
  11. Agreed! I love what I do and will most likely still work after retirement! I want to do it because I can not because I have to financially.
  12. I don't know what it is but I've been thinking about retirement all week! Maybe I just need a nice vacation. There must be plenty of nurses here thinking about their very distant retirement as well. Slightly depressing but also nice to start planning ahead. 😃
  13. June 13, 2015 Cc: DON; Nurse Manager; Entire Hospital Staff Dear Human Resources, I regret to inform you that I will be departing Wonderland University Hospital after 30 years of service. Wonderland has provided me many opportunities to learn and grow as a Registered Nurse throughout my nursing career. In compliance with Wonderland University Hospital Pension Plan I intend to retire effective June 1, 2046. While I look forward to enjoying retirement on the sunny beaches of Dominican Republic, I will miss working with the company and all of my colleagues. If I can be of any assistance during this transition please............________#####** Dr. SoandSo: "Crap!!!!" ::instruments fall:: Dr. SoandSo: "Madras, we're converting to open." Me: "😩 dammit!!" - Hey.... A girl can daydream! Sound off below 😂
  14. My thought is maybe as a "Health Aide". My kids school district hires them. They usually work in the school nurse/health office. Minimum requirements for the job is CPR and First Aide certified. They're the nurses helping hand around the office.
  15. New York here... MA's teach MA classes. Most postings require you to have your certification and at least 5 years experience with preferably an associates degree (usually not specified in what). Nurses teach CNA classes.
