Part time CRNA school for Police officer
Just a few thoughts. Would you consider pursuing nursing/crna after retiring from the PD? That way you can concentrate fully on your career choices. It sounds like your in the civil service department so you could be retiring quite young depending on when you entered. Secondly, my brother is a FDNY firefighter and yes while he works two 24 hour tours he still gets mandated often. What would you do if you had classes/clinicals etc. I went to nursing school with a medic. He took a leave of absence to do school then went back to work full time and works nursing per diem.

Nurse at Disneyworld
Love this thread! I've had similar thoughts about being a nurse in Disney or even on a cruise ship lol.

You should know better
I always drive over the speed limit. Coffee. All. Day. I almost never take my vitamins. I self diagnose and treat accordingly. I could eat steak every day.

Have you ever fainted 😕
Lol. It definately is ok to feel a bit "fainty"during new experiences. Especially if your expected to be a part of the process! I nearly passed out the first time I cleaned up a c-diff blowout!!! I made my way over to the chair the patient had just been sitting in! I didn't care! I just needed to sit! Lol The other time for me was in nursing school in the newborn nursery under those heat lamps. It was just too warm for me. But now in the OR nearly passing out is the first trimester right of passage.... At least at my job!

Have you ever fainted 😕
Congrats on your new job! first question: Did you eat breakfast/hydrate? Second question: Are you pregnant?

Does everyone have a conscience?
Isn't this the same person who says they don't go on these "trips", and just ends up picking up the pieces on Monday morning. You know what, I give up...... I thought this was going to be a great thread til I opened it. Kinda like that acquaintance that when you see them at a distance you begin to evade..... Taking wagers for a timeframe for the next wild story that has nothing to do with nursing!!

I'm a sexless nurse
Been following this thread all weekend and officially give up somewhere around post 130. OP is a boarding school nurse now, no? My timeline is reading that his experiences were almost 20 years ago. Doesn't that just make this all a MOOT point considering "culture" wherever we all may be has definately come leaps and bounds in the past two decades...... Do European patients/hospitals/ etc still have these chaperone policies/discomfort with male nurses? This thread and this poster has sucked the life out of me but it been real peeps

Compression socks
Compression socks can be covered by your insurance if the compression you need is 20mmHg or more. But you have to find a provider in your area that will size you and prescribe them!

Only 11,310 Days til Retirement!!!!
Agreed! I love what I do and will most likely still work after retirement! I want to do it because I can not because I have to financially.

Only 11,310 Days til Retirement!!!!
I don't know what it is but I've been thinking about retirement all week! Maybe I just need a nice vacation. There must be plenty of nurses here thinking about their very distant retirement as well. Slightly depressing but also nice to start planning ahead. 😃

Only 11,310 Days til Retirement!!!!
June 13, 2015 Cc: DON; Nurse Manager; Entire Hospital Staff Dear Human Resources, I regret to inform you that I will be departing Wonderland University Hospital after 30 years of service. Wonderland has provided me many opportunities to learn and grow as a Registered Nurse throughout my nursing career. In compliance with Wonderland University Hospital Pension Plan I intend to retire effective June 1, 2046. While I look forward to enjoying retirement on the sunny beaches of Dominican Republic, I will miss working with the company and all of my colleagues. If I can be of any assistance during this transition please............________#####** Dr. SoandSo: "Crap!!!!" ::instruments fall:: Dr. SoandSo: "Madras, we're converting to open." Me: "😩 dammit!!" - Hey.... A girl can daydream! Sound off below 😂

Cnas getting hired at grade schools
My thought is maybe as a "Health Aide". My kids school district hires them. They usually work in the school nurse/health office. Minimum requirements for the job is CPR and First Aide certified. They're the nurses helping hand around the office.

Can a CMA teach a MA class?
New York here... MA's teach MA classes. Most postings require you to have your certification and at least 5 years experience with preferably an associates degree (usually not specified in what). Nurses teach CNA classes.

Higher Calling
Yes! I forgot to thank him for advocating for us since we're all working in trash and remaining silent, holding our bladders in our hands and crying in the broom closet, only to collect that lousy wage!!

Higher Calling
This feels like one of those trickery/bait/rant/terrorize threads..... Where the OP makes some "well known" statement that no one else has experienced. Then when you reply with nope sorry no call/happy with job/career mobility/return on investment, your met with... "well your just some barefoot lowly WOMAN who went to COMMUNITY COLLEGE and you don't KNOW any better" 😂
-
Higher Calling
Well someone is unhappy about their career choice. Sorry to see that. But I may just be reading between the lines......

But you're a nurse, you could've done this....
Thanks everybody for the opinions. There were so many things that went though my mind at the time and still thinking about what the possibilities could've been. At first I felt silly. I thought yea why shouldn't I be able to handle this? But truthfully when my kid is sick, we go to the pedi. This shouldn't be any different. So now I feel confident that I stood my ground and recognized my boundaries. Btw my kiddo is fine. Just has a Great War story now. Lol Oh and hubby is fine too. The car..... Well I've been wanting to get rid of it for a while anyway! 😜

But you're a nurse, you could've done this....
Yes! This! I did think this as well because worse case scenario if something happened to my child I would want insurance to know he WAS evaluated at the scene! Thanks 😉

But you're a nurse, you could've done this....
So today I left work and was on my way to meet hubby and kiddo to run errands. I was about 5 minutes away when I get a call from him saying they've been in a car accident! "We're ok though". I arrive on scene, police had just gotten there as well. I see the car and someone sideswiped the passenger side of his 2 door coupe. My son was in the back seat passenger side. I do a look over of him, quick assessment and take him out of the car. He's blabbing on and on about his new crazy experience. (6 yr old aspiring race car driver) looking good. The officer asked if I wanted an ambulance to come and I said yes. So ambulance arrived on scene. My kid is just yapping away and enjoying all the attention. The medics take one look at me and say "but you're a nurse, you could've handled this, he seems fine". (Still had my badge on from work) I said "yes but I'm an OR nurse so not exactly my forte plus I'd feel much better if he got a full assessment and some vitals". So all in all everything is fine, the medics were really great but this raised a thought for me...... What would other nurses have done? Thoughts?

AWD vehicle for nurses
Keep the fuel efficient car while in school. With all the driving back and forth plus clinical sites you'll be happy you did. Especially idling in traffic on Long Island for what may be more than an hour most days. Get your big kid car when you are a nurse. Make it a gift to yourself for all the hard work! I drove a Honda Fit all through nursing school. Great on gas driving back and forth 5+ days a week. Got myself a brand new Durango when I got my first job. And so glad I did, we had snowfall like crazy that winter! The plus was it takes e85 which costs less to fill up as well.

Married at First Sight has a nurse on it :)
Definately have a small crush on Sean. â¤ï¸. I think that might be the only reason I'm watching the show. Not usually a reality tv buff, I actually watched the first episode by accident and got hooked! Pulling for Sean and Davina!
