Lysol Douche

Published

A senior member of mamily, whom I suspect is in the early stages of Alzeimer's, told me today that her "hips were hurting" so she gave herself a Lysol Douche. She said that she had used it during the 40's as birth-control, and she thought this might make her feel better. She said she is feeling better now. I am really afraid that she is going to hurt herself. She said that she didn't use very much, but I am still worried. Ever heard of this?

Hey, some wound care nurses STILL use Dakins on decubs......makes my skin crawl at even the thought of it........and some doctors still order Betadine wet-to-dry dressings (another big OUCH). As for using soda pop to unclog G-tubes, I admit to using Diet 7-Up---works like Drano in my experience!

Saw an order for a Betadine wet-to-dry dressing a week ago. I feel sorry for that pt. because i know that wound had been painful to start with on its own.

".....You can bet that the male doctor that figured this one out NEVER bent over to get a wiff of his Henry.....Or they would have been scrubbing under those foreskins with the Bon Ami....."

OMG! But I think the correct term is "Johnson".....

As a guy, Im sorry I read this entire thread lol.

Im not to familiar with feminine doings.. so just curious.. what is commonly used today? The salt-vinegar thing?

Seems like if you was going to use something as painful as lysol why not just go ahead and pour rubbin alcohol in there.. atleast it wont smell like Christmas after.

Now that you ask-I have just been to the Museum of Menstruation website and from there linked to a site on the proper care of that area...I am now the Guru of feminine hygiene.Douching is NOT recommended-the area should be cleansed with plain warm water-do not rub with a cloth or bath sponge or you will harm the tissue by removing the beneficial natural oils.......No soap or body shampoo except something mild like castile...No powders or sprays...plain cornstarch or Gold bond-no talcum as it has been linked to cancers..If irritated a soaking in the tub with 4 or 5 T's baking soda is good....all cotton panties-loose fitting slacks..Nightie with no undies at night to air it out...unless a hurricane is forecast-then you better wear sweats-you would not want to be found up a tree naked from the waist down....

OK, I couldn't resist. I just said that to my husband (actually I said smell, not touch).

He rolled his eyes and said "allnurses again?" and went back to playing EverQuest.

This thread is hilarious!! Made me laugh out loud in my clinic at school. Especially the Henry thing- Yea, foreskins can be hazardous to your health-stinky too. Why, o why did not men get a whiff of their own stink-or better yet, why isn't there a product to "clean under there". Ok you frustrated engineers and designers, now is your chance to shine, as well as those igcognito manufacturing execs and ad people..............

GRROOSSSSSS! My mom in law used bathe her own mother with a lysol bath ( few teaspoons in a basin) because her urine smell was so bad (she was a total care that like to pull her foley out). I guess it didn't hurt, she did that for years before she finally died (pneumonia, I think). Personally, I think some Clorox on some of these "stinkers" couldn't hurt!!!:chuckle

I remember the Dakins, very well. I'm thinking we used that on graft donor sites. I've also seen various carbonated drinks used in an attempt to unclog feeding tubes. Don't remember any particular success with those.
