A senior member of mamily, whom I suspect is in the early stages of Alzeimer's, told me today that her "hips were hurting" so she gave herself a Lysol Douche. She said that she had used it during the 40's as birth-control, and she thought this might make her feel better. She said she is feeling better now. I am really afraid that she is going to hurt herself. She said that she didn't use very much, but I am still worried. Ever heard of this?
Okay, here's one you stinker.
I never heard of lysol, but I did have an elderly patient abt 90 who had been raised in the sticks use boric acid crystals, I think it was 2 Tbsp to a qt of water to wash the peri area. She said it was a good remedy for infections and that she had made her girls all wash with it after childbirth, that it had aided the healing process after tearing/episiotomies. I was horrified even thinking about it and wouldnt make the solution up until I spoke to the ladies daughter. She veriefied what Mom said. Years later I was rweading a alternative herbal medicine book and it recommended boric acid in capsules inserted lady partslly as a rememdy for infection. I guess the folk remedies do work the above named pateint had made it to age 90 without even taking antibiotics. She was also AOX4 and lived alone even though she was blind. She fell broke a hip, developed CHF and pneumonia and died all within 6 weeks.

Heres on on feminine hygiene.
I once was called to the dementia unit by a CNA because one of her female residents was acting strange and walking funny. We ordered lab work and did a physical. Results showed nothing. The next Idea was to get a UA/CS on her. Because she was uncooperative we decided to straight cath her for the spec. We put her in bed and gowned her, went to insert the cath and guess what. She was found to have a hair brush and a tooth brush in her @#**!. Bristles in !!!! Handles out !!!!
She wasn't able to explain. Guess she was doing her own grooming that AM.:imbar
OKAY I didn't like to mention it before because it is obvious that "Lysol" is/was a DIFFERENT formulation over in the USA than it was here. I actually haven't seen it for years as it was taken off the market because it contained Phenol.
This is why I went searching for what you meant by Lysol because even the thought of what our "Lysol" was has ...... well my..... lets just say every time I read this thread I cannot uncross my legs.

Note the scientific evidence!!!
Innocent housewife: What about salt and soda douches?
Important scientific grey-haired doc: NO! A thousand times NO! Lysol has "PROVEN EFFECIENCY WITH ORGANIC MATTER".
(cue narrator)
For your organic matter, and the sake of your marriage and all that is holy, douche with floor cleaner. It's proven. Women may be stupid and underinformed, but they sure smell clean!
