A senior member of mamily, whom I suspect is in the early stages of Alzeimer's, told me today that her "hips were hurting" so she gave herself a Lysol Douche. She said that she had used it during the 40's as birth-control, and she thought this might make her feel better. She said she is feeling better now. I am really afraid that she is going to hurt herself. She said that she didn't use very much, but I am still worried. Ever heard of this?

Indeed! I took care of an 88 year old woman who told me how they used it for birth control. SHE had gotten me in a discussion about having sex. SHE informed me.."you don't have to be married to have sex." I laughed, and told her you really have to be careful these days because of diseases. She replied, "Oh yes, the Aids thing." She proceeded to tell me how she became pregnant within a month of meeting her husband. Anyhow, she told me about using lysol to prevent pregnancy. She burned herself one time, and the Drs told her she wouldn't be able to have anymore children. They did have a "caboose" years later. When I said something to the Dr who ddi her surgey, he replied that during his residency, it was not uncommon to get women in who had burns from lysol...or...bleach!

Thank you, lord, for letting me be born in 1981 to a militant feminist, so that I have never even considered: douching(with anything, let alone Lysol!!!) , maxi pads, scented tampons, not using a condom, or feminine deodorant spray.
You can buy scented tampons? Well that's just ridiculous! Do they smell of Lysol? ;)

No they smell like a used pad that some one tried to mask the smell of with the fragnance of lilacs, tulips, strawberries, or the garden after rain ... and they give you yeast infections!

I saw a woman in the market buying a box of douches a few months ago and I seriously considered trying to talk her out of it.

:nono:

As Eve Ensler says in The lady parts Monologues: "I don't want my ***** to smell like 'berries' or 'rain'!!!"

We need more men who will TELL a woman he doesn't want berries...AND...

thank GOD for the feminists, as they made sex better for men as well as women! When I was getting worked up about the pharmacists who were refusing to sell birth control pills to women(because in their eyes, it is abortion) I was venting to my male friends, explaining that this concerns them as well. They all did admit, that they had much better sex lives because of the pill.

Hmmmmmm...perhaps these pharmacists are the ones "pushing" the berries?

Believe it or not... my grandmother used to do this ..... in the 30's, 40's I suppose. My mom said it was because she was afraid of having an odor.... but maybe SHE was using it as birth control??? hmmmm
