I was sitting here at my desk and a second grader walks in (without knocking) and shoves her arm in my face and just says "Rash"! Then just stands there staring at me.
I politely asked her to leave and try that again. Honestly, sometimes I wonder about some of these kids.

Boy oh boy. You should hear my horrible stories haha. One of my pet peeves is when they bang on my door - my door is always locked, school policy. When they do that I yell at them "Ayyeee!"

I have kids who come in and help themselves to my bandaids and ice packs without asking. Um, hello? I don't go through your locker so don't touch my stuff!

i tend to stare back at them until they get it or say to them "how about we try that over using a full sentence like a __ grader?" I also like to push manners by saying "thank you for the bandage nurse flare, oh you're welcome, Matthew." They tend to get it pretty quickly.

I was on the phone with a parent this week when one of my daily med HS kids came in. I smiled at the kid, and held my finger up to signal "1 minute." He walked over to where he sees me pull his med out from and grabbed the cabinet door. I had to excuse myself for a moment from the parent to say "ABSOLUTELY NOT" and stop that kid in his tracks. Then again later in the week a kid coming in for a PRN tried to open my cabinet. This has never happened before and happened twice in this week. I always lock my cabinets when I'm out of the office, but now I'm locking them while I'm in office too.
I've also dealt with a lot of kids "sneaking up" on me. When I get the chance to run over to eat lunch in the staff lounge I have to sit facing the door or else a child might sneak up behind me and get my attention by breathing on my neck instead of saying "excuse me". NO THANKS!

Ooooh No. I cannot stand kids trying to be cute and sneaking up to surprise me. I hate being started. Like a second of physical pain throughout my body. I try to temper myself because I know they are showing that they like and trust me enough to play with me but I laugh and then talk them out of it. We'll come up with another "just between us" game.
And the meds. Arrgghh. I haven't had trouble at the schools but I would bring camp meds to the mess hall in a lockable tote. I had a very particular way of sorting them and some kids would just see theirs and try to reach in for it. Do NOT reach into my med bin! You are not a nurse! Wait in line like everyone else. Then I went to a camp where the nurse for years just laid out pill envelopes with every child's name and encouraged them to self serve. Drove me nutsy.

I work with older kids and no manners is my biggest pet peeve. When a student demands something, I stop just stare and usually say "Hi, how are you. Hi is your day?" and they get the hint.
And I'm always saying "what is my favorite word?" to get them to remember to say please. Because life lesson kids - you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

It drives me crazy when kids come in and just stare at me. I ask "what's up?" and they continue to stare. I tell them I failed mind reading you'll have to tell me why you're here or go back to class. If I still don't get a response I send them back to class. If the teacher calls to ask why I didn't do anything I let them know the student wouldn't speak to me and I didn't know what they needed. We have tried the nurses note thing, but rarely get it and since we are not at every campus everyday it's hard to enforce it.

I refuse to look at the nurse pass if the kid won't talk to me. You're in middle school. Come on now!
My favorite is when girls won't just tell me they need a pad or are having cramps (even when the room is empty). They'll say they have a stomach ache, I'll go through the whole battery of GI questions and then finally think to ask if they are having cramps. They'll say yes, and I'll say, "Next time, it'll be a whole lot easier for us both if you just say that." SMH
