The economy stinks and new grads and other nurses are searching for employment.

What nursing job would YOU never do and why.....

Anything to do with peds or psych.

Specializes in L&D.

Burn unit. Ugh. I couldn't take watching the poor people in pain...

I would never say never, but I would have to be desperate to go back to med-surg.

I'll tolerate an occasional float to burns, but have no desire to go work there.

No interest in L&D. I don't want to work where every decision people make is so political. Everything you say is bound to offend someone.

Another great question would be "what kind of unit did you think you would hate and when you had the opportunity to do it you found out you loved it?" My answer would be working on a hospital based prison ward. If you asked me before I did it I would have said I would be scared to death and shaking to hard to function. Turns out it was the best general medical/surgical unit I ever worked on and I was never scared for a minute, loved it.

Specializes in neonatal intensive care.

I retired after working for 20 years in an NICU, but could never do Peds. Also never wanted to work in the ER. Actually, after working in the NI, I did not want to work with adults anymore and did not have to!

Specializes in Med/Surg, ICU, educator.

Never, ever wanna work in OB-Peds. I've been a pregnant laboring chick, and I don't need to be around it, and I've got plenty of nieces and nephews and kids of my own if I wanna be around kids.....I love med/surg!

Specializes in Labor & Delivery Tech.

Not attacking anyone, but there are reasons for induction that you may not agree with. My facility doesn't perform elective inductions. After 41 weeks a placenta begins to die, reason for induction, Pregnancy induced hypotension, preeclampsia, all warrant inductions. Circumcision is a personal choice, and I don't know too many men who care either way. I thank God everyday that I am. Also, despite what anyone tells you, we don't give out prizes for having a baby without pain medication. =)

That being said, I would never do hospice care, or peds. I prefer ICU and ER.

Medical inductions, fine. But inductions done to accomodate that Dr. or mom, not good....birth should be about when the baby is ready not everyone else involved. Circumcision SHOULD be a personal choice, but when the parents make the choice then it's taken away from the person who should be making it. It's mutilation and barbaric and should be illegal. Look into it and you might feel differently on thanking God that you are. :)

P.S....If you thank God, did you forget who made you to begin with?

Any nursing that required me to sit for long periods of time behind a computer or on the phone...and I would gain weight if I did...hahaha
