we recieved $50.00 gift cards for walmart.. which surprised me because we got nothing last year...lol
We had a hospital wide Holiday Lunch/Dinner depending on shift worked. Free meals in cafeteria on the holiday itself. Each unit does it's own pot luck and manager provides a gift is they wish. Unit I worked yesterday got a Krueg coffee maker from their manager.
I work float pool, we had a pot luck Monday, our manager gave us each a Christmas ornament that was significant to the culture of our city.
Happy Holiday to all.
Is that going to be considered a taxable gift to you? Because I can tell you now that the IRS is gonna look into that.....i.e. the reason why those kinds of things were stopped at my hospital system....
thats prolly why we dont get anything... anyway they can screw you over, they will... last year 30 some people got told 2 days before Christmas there jobs were terminated and they were to pack up and be out at the end of their shift that day. merry freakin Christmas huh?
before i became disabled, i worked at a state mental hospital. at christmas/or other december holiday, they gave us each a turkey or ham. when the new facility director was hired, it became just a ham. the last holiday season i worked, hams were passed out. it was below zero, i accepted my ham, said "thank you" and went home to bed.
when i woke up, i found two hams like mine on the porch with notes attached. one said, "i keep a kosher home and want you and ___ to enjoy this." the other said, "since we're muslim, we cannot eat ham. they goofed again! here's a second one."
well thought out on the hospital's part, huh?!

this is about a given from the heart christmas/birthday present.
my husband has done volunteer work with 2 little brothers for three and a half years who come from a very poor family. he just came home from working with the kids, bearing a gift bag. today was my husband's birthday.
we opened the bag. he got a bag of muffin mix with a wooden spoon attached and two bottles of carbonated grape juice -- one white and the other purple. price tags still on. total? $4.50
great gifts though, because they were given from the heart and, secondarily, because of the financial sacrifice the gifts represent. most of us on the allnurses bb went through tight periods while getting our educations but we kept going because we knew there was light at the end of the tunnel.
this family has little hope. the kids must be their light at the end of their tunnel. i think some light came on tonight due, in part, to my wonderful husband.

Hey, Sharpie mom! I am Jewish, and I would not have hesitated to say something directly to the insensitive person who gave out the hams. I would have taken the ham and given it to someone else who would use it. I don't personally keep kosher, but that is not the point here.
Many years ago, I spent a year in Israel, and worked at a hospital there. Depending on your length of service, they gave out gifts twice a year, once at Passover, and again at the Jewish New Year. Passover was glass dishware (glass can be used with any product), and New Year was wine and honey. I still have some of the glass bowls, 31 years later!
Gifts/bonuses have varied widely depending on many factors, I long ago learned not to expect anything and to be happy with whatever was given. When I was a head nurse at one place, I was asked if I would accept a Christmas present from my staff. I replied that I would graciously accept any gift at any time. I bought small gifts for each of my staff - about 20 people - it was apparent that some felt I didn't do them justice. I had no inkling that I was going to receive a large bonus, so I only spent about $3-4 apiece. I might have spent more had I known, but as it was, most of the staff seemed pleased, and many used the datebooks, photo albums and such. I also frequently purchased colorful pens and sticky pads for the unit. When they got out the old Christmas tree, it was in terrible condition. I asked the main dr if he would buy the unit a new tree, and he agreed. I purchased a new tree, and brought it in early one morning. Everyone thought it was lovely, but only 2 people asked where it came from!
Oh well!
A $15 dollar gift card and a nice pocket sized calendar. I also won a gift card in the holiday raffle.
Not a "holiday" bonus, but this month I also got part of my hire on bonus ($625) and my 18 month raise ($5 more per hour).
It was a nice month! I'm so thankful to have such a wonderful job that I love.

Before I retired all the CCU doc's would chip in and each of us got a 100 dollar gift card from walmart. One doc gave me season's tickets to our little hometown hockey games. I loved that gift! and every hospital I worked gave us turkeys
