I haven't given up, I have looked everywhere and no one and I mean no one wants new grads in the NYC area, I have tried everything and everywhere and nothing, I found a job in an office doing admin work, the pay is not bad and I need the money, it is full time so I won't be looking for any nursing jobs anytime soon, I feel heartbroken I worked so hard in school and no one would even give me a chance. Oh well life goes on, I almost finished my BSN but after this semester I'll quit no use throwing good money after bad. Good luck to all of you, I wihs you all the best.

Did you consider relocating?

Sorry to hear you are at a stalemate as far as nursing is concerned but glad to hear you are employed. I guess it goes without saying that relocating is not an option for you? I would continue applying for nursing jobs. Sooner or later something might turn up, but it won't if you don't continue to apply. Good luck.

I am sorry to heard that, but I understand your situation. I haven't had too much luck finding a job either, and my friends from school are in the same boat...no jobs, or if any luck we get only prn jobs for new grads and of course not a chance to work in hospitals and even at doctor's office...

Keep your head up! Have you tried actually going in and talking to the nursing supervisors or recruiters?

NYC is going through some hard times when it comes to nursing. and for that matter the healthcare system in general.
The local profession barely began to absorb nurses laid off from the two SVCMC hospitals closing in Queens, than the rapid decline and closing of Saint Vincent's Manhattan, then Harlem in quick sucession.
With so many seasoned nurses not only in NYC, but NJ and Conn, looking for work, new grads are really in a tough spot. Adding to this misery the scores of new grads that emerge once or twice a year from local nursing programs.
All this with the economic upheaval and now "Obamacare", and cuts to federal/state funding putting even more stress on NYC hospitals.
Being as all this may, did you try Lenox Hill? Word on the street is they are hiring, and indeed there are a few posts in the "NY Nurses" section of nurses recently hired. One, IIRC is a new grad.
One problem (if it could be called that), is the sheer numbers of ADN grads coming out of local programs every six or twelve months at a time when local hospitals are saying they only want BSN nurses.
Keep your chin up and even though you are not working in the profession, try to find chances to use your skills and gain experience. Flu clinics, volunteer work, whatever. Also use every chance to network and make contacts. You never know.

Have you tried nursing homes and rehab facilities? Beggars can't be choosers and at least you would still be in your chosen field of nursing.

I would keep on your BSN track if you can. Once things open up in the job market, you'll be all the more hire-able with that extra letter. I wish you the best. California is having a hard time as well. But things will change, they have to. Keep on!!

Here in the Pacific NW, over in Coeur D'ALene, Kootenai Medical Center (25 miles East of Spokane, Washington), is offering a new Grad residency. I believe that you have to be a BSN grad to apply. It is a paid residency, and they offer specialty areas, like ICU, OR ,OB, etc. Look them up on the Internet.
Also, in Pullman, which is South East of Spokane, Pullman Memorial Hospital is looking for OB nurses, and they stated in the want ads on Sunday, that they are accepting New grads!
Look them up, an good luck! PM me if any questions.
