I haven't given up, I have looked everywhere and no one and I mean no one wants new grads in the NYC area, I have tried everything and everywhere and nothing, I found a job in an office doing admin work, the pay is not bad and I need the money, it is full time so I won't be looking for any nursing jobs anytime soon, I feel heartbroken I worked so hard in school and no one would even give me a chance. Oh well life goes on, I almost finished my BSN but after this semester I'll quit no use throwing good money after bad. Good luck to all of you, I wihs you all the best.
Have you tried Girl Scouts yet? They hire starting in March for their summer camps. They don't require experience (at least where I am this is true) and they really need camp nurses. I have been to many camps without camp nurses because they couldn't find one to hire. (Not everyone can just drop everything and go away for a week or 10 days) There are plenty of experienced adults at camp so you are never on your own and Girl Scout camp rocks! The food is great and the company is better! LOL There are day camps and camps where you go away so please look on their website today and sign up.
Good luck!
I had a similar experience in Florida. In nursing school they said they would be "knocking on our doors" when we graduated. It so happens that the economy turned after I graduated in 2009. It took me TWO years to finally get into a GN program and it just so happens that it is the EXACT job I always wanted! Don't give up! I was feeling awful and getting very depressed. It was rough. But, it finally happened! Good luck!!!!
For Spokane, Washington, Eastern Washington Nurses, and North Idaho:
There is a Nursing and Healthcare IT Career Fair on Thursday, March, 17th at the Davenport Hotel in Downtown Spokane.
I don't know what hospitals are going to be there, other than Harrison Medical Center from Bremerton, Washington, who I received a card from. They are on the coast north of Seattle.
Hope that helps!

Don't give up on the BSN, it will be worth it in the end.
Also, consider relocating away from NY, there are so many jobs out there, you can almost pick & choose where you want to work/live.
I'm at the point in my career, I've done the rotating shifts, been the manager, been the temp nurse, even had my own business staffing facilities, but now I just want to find a place & do a job. Then go home & sleep without worrying about how the rent is going to get paid.
Keep after it & don't quit now.
It is a tough market out there! I became an LPN and I thought I'd have no problem getting a great job, boy was I wrong. I had several interviews, but heard the classic ''we need someone with more experience. I was really frustrated that they weren't considering my previous background. I was an MA prior to being an LPN. I finally got hired at a home health agency. I am doing a lot of CNA work, which sucks but I figure its better than nothing. I also work in LTC and actually as an LPN I am wanting to go back to school soo bad for RN. I hope your situation gets better!
Aww don't quit. Finish and get the BSN and maybe you can still apply for other jobs at the hospital to get your foot in the door? Like a unit secretary or something to network your way in. I am applying like crazy for those kinds of jobs now so that when I finish school hopefully they will love me already and give me a shot. Life is too short to settle and not go for what is yours!

I think the OP has tried everything...
I know 12 people personally who have ditched nursing as NGs with debt unable to find a nursing job. ASN, BSN and 3 MSN. Yikes on the amount of debt they need to repay. Many in my class are still working FT in their first careers.
Note to all: IMO it is not adviseable to go to nursing school if you will incur substantial debt in the process. Absolutely do not do it until there is a definite change in the hiring pattern for new nurses who are educated in the US. Now, if mommy and daddy are rich then go ahead and sponge I guess if you are of that mindset, but for all the mature ones out there who will be paying their own school debt, you have to think hard on how you are going to make a living.
I've had the reality talk with a few parents and kids. And, thankfully they've talked with folks at hospitals and schools and have firmly asked the tough questions. They told me that nursing colleges will squirm when confronted, but then grudgingly could not provide data that proves that more than a few of their grads are gainfully employed as RNs. I also told them to ask for a tour in a few hospitals and one father friend came right out and asked what ratio of foreign trained nurses do they currently have on staff. HA! Good for him! What's good that came out of this is that they know now that there is no nursing shortage, and although nursing is still an interest, the kids will go to school for something else. This pleases me, and I am glad that I could help them get the info they need.
