Is anyone at all concerned that the leader of the free world...against all recommendations...is taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventative measure...despite having high cholesterol?
Or that a doctor felt OK prescribing such to the leader of the free world despite said concerns? I mean HOLY COW!?!?!? How many will be banging down doors now to follow suit???
QuoteSeveral doctors questioned the wisdom of taking the unproven drug, given the possible risks.
“I think it’s a very bad idea to be taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive medication,” said Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist and the director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in La Jolla, Calif. “There are no data to support that, there’s no evidence, and in fact there is no compelling evidence to support its use at all at this point.”
Dr. Topol said that the risk of developing a potentially fatal arrhythmia because of hydroxychloroquine could come without warning and did not happen only in people with heart conditions. “We can’t predict that; in fact, it can happen in people who are healthy,” he said. “It could happen in anyone.”
Dr. David Maron, a cardiologist and the chief of the Stanford Prevention Research Center, said in an interview that in his opinion “the risk-benefit ratio doesn’t make sense.”

Are there NO repercussions for this kind of insanity??? Sorry...but WOW!!. Am good and would get the hell out of this field if I could for sooo many reasons right now...but opening a restaurant right now is out and that's what I'd wanna do...rofl.

Just stop with the hysteria. So Trump is an authoritarian because he may have taken hydrochloroquinine? Please explain to the rest of us how this makes sense. Did Trump force anyone else to take hydrochloroquinine? No, he did not. I've yet to see evidence that taking certain medications indicates one's political proclivities.
And frankly, it is people like you that do not adhere to science. The studies indicating hydrochloroquinine are dangerous have been retracted. Did you know that? All this hysteria over this drug was pure political propaganda and nonsense, not science.
"Two papers related to COVID-19 appearing in major journals that relied on data from Surgisphere Corp. were retracted on Thursday.
One was the large study in The Lancet published May 22 that found mortality and arrhythmia risks with hydroxychloroquine (HCQ); the other was in the New England Journal of Medicine on May 1 and purported to show that certain antihypertensive drugs did not worsen COVID-19 risk.
Authors of both papers said they could no longer vouch for the data's accuracy. Statisticians and independent researchers had questioned its veracity and both journals had recently posted “expressions of concern” in response."
" “This isn’t a story about a bad co-author,” says Leigh Turner, a bioethicist at the University of Minnesota. “There were some pretty significant breakdowns occurring within the journals.”
Worse, the breakdowns fed politically inspired skepticism about coronavirus research in general and research into the antimalarials specifically. The chief culprit in this effort to undermine science is President Trump, who turned the use of the antimalarials as treatments for the pandemic into a partisan cause."

Research into using hydrochloroquinine for COVID continues. It is far too early for any "scientist" to state definitively whether or not it is helpful. Anyone who claims otherwise is not acting in accordance with "science."

Trump's reckless irresponsibility extends far beyond his nonsense about COVID treatments. You may consider valid concern for American National security, the health of the citizenry or the function of our republic under the thumb of a corrupt authoritarian to be hysteria, but I disagree. Trump's threat to our well being ought to be pretty clear as he cruelly bungles his way through his first term, a pandemic and racist tensions.

I agree and think it is sad that in this Orwellian time we find ourselves in that even some in the healthcare field will let their never-trump attitude affect their data, decisions, statements, judgements etc re: Covid. The fact that we cant get straight answers from healthcare professionals is a true and real existential threat.
The never trumpers get hysterical over everything and anything but you would think with issues like this they would give it a rest.

You do realize that Trump is responsible for the Orwellian feel to this time, right? He is largely responsible for the confusion over public health recommendations or when businesses should be opened during a pandemic. He is the one who blatantly lies and misrepresents to the degree that up seems down. The fact that the PRESIDENT of the USA habitually lies to the American people with impunity is a threat to our republic.

Hey, just keep ignoring the evidence. Oh, wait, isn't that what Trump and his supporters do?
You completely ignore the fact that key studies on how hydrochloroquinine sucks have been retracted. But wait, aren't you looking at the science?
This thread was about hydrochloroquinine. Yet in your mind it has morphed into Trump being an authoritarian because he takes hydrochloroquinine. Huh? It is actually the people who hate Trump so much that they want everyone to stop taking hydrochloroquinine, damn the science, just because Trump touted it, who are the totalitarians. And you can look up the difference between totalitarianism and authoritarianism.
You are toomuchbaloney for me.

I didn't mention hydroxychloroquine in the remark you quoted. I spoke exclusively about Trump because he is the reason there is a thread about it at all. His musings are dangerous.

Some of us actually do research. I suggest you do the same before challenging me.
"Treatment with hydroxychloroquine cut the death rate significantly in sick patients hospitalized with COVID-19 – and without heart-related side-effects, according to a new study published by Henry Ford Health System.
In a large-scale retrospective analysis of 2,541 patients hospitalized between March 10 and May 2, 2020 across the system’s six hospitals, the study found 13% of those treated with hydroxychloroquine alone died compared to 26.4% not treated with hydroxychloroquine. None of the patients had documented serious heart abnormalities; however, patients were monitored for a heart condition routinely pointed to as a reason to avoid the drug as a treatment for COVID-19.
The study was published today in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, the peer-reviewed, open-access online publication of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID.org)."

I'm just tired of politics. Can we get back to using common sense and not the go along to get along because this party is such and such and that party is so and so?
If people stopped playing politics and follow the universal law of right and wrong, we'd be much better off as a society.
