Is anyone at all concerned that the leader of the free world...against all recommendations...is taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventative measure...despite having high cholesterol?
Or that a doctor felt OK prescribing such to the leader of the free world despite said concerns? I mean HOLY COW!?!?!? How many will be banging down doors now to follow suit???
QuoteSeveral doctors questioned the wisdom of taking the unproven drug, given the possible risks.
“I think it’s a very bad idea to be taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive medication,” said Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist and the director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in La Jolla, Calif. “There are no data to support that, there’s no evidence, and in fact there is no compelling evidence to support its use at all at this point.”
Dr. Topol said that the risk of developing a potentially fatal arrhythmia because of hydroxychloroquine could come without warning and did not happen only in people with heart conditions. “We can’t predict that; in fact, it can happen in people who are healthy,” he said. “It could happen in anyone.”
Dr. David Maron, a cardiologist and the chief of the Stanford Prevention Research Center, said in an interview that in his opinion “the risk-benefit ratio doesn’t make sense.”

Are there NO repercussions for this kind of insanity??? Sorry...but WOW!!. Am good and would get the hell out of this field if I could for sooo many reasons right now...but opening a restaurant right now is out and that's what I'd wanna do...rofl.

As has been previously posted, the initial studies that hydrocholoquinine is ineffective and dangerous have been retracted.
Here are the facts:
1. Hydrochloroquinine has already been approved by the FDA and has been used for a long time.
2. Side effects and adverse effects of hydrochloroquinine are well known, not a surprise to any medical professional.
3. Multiple studies are continuing to investigate this drug's usefulness for COVID.
4. A study published last week found that this medication is indeed very useful in reducing the COVID mortality rate when used early on. I already published the link to this recent study, but here you go again:
https://www.ijidonline.com/article/S1201-9712(20)30534-8/fulltext
Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that hydrochloroquinine can indeed help some patients. Using SCIENCE, it is reasonable to consider this medication as a treatment for some patients. Of course, further research is needed.
Given that there is evidence that HCQ can decrease mortality, which means it can save lives, I can't imagine any healthcare provider deciding their dislike of Trump and anything he likes outweighs helping patients.

BTW - Trump was not my first choice for President. I was an ardent Bernie supporter.
The important thing is that all viable research continues until there is a resolution. There were many prior studies by the Chinese that showed promise but many of those were lacking a control group or given in combination with other drugs and thus were disqualified. There was also a French study that had no controls and was also disqualified.
There are still a large number of ongoing studies on HCQ because the verdict is not in yet in the scientific community. Most of the reports that it is a failure were by biased media groups.
Many of the patients that had complications were given the drug late-term or had preexisting conditions. HCQ is no more dangerous than it was before this outbreak.

So, you made a claim that health professionals who don't like Trump are not treating their patients appropriately or some such claim...that people are suffering because the health workers don't like the way Trump talks about this drug. Where's your proof? In fact, the scientists and professionals must continue their ethical work in spite of the Trump idiocy.

He also left out the ever growing number of peer reviewed clinical trials that found the med useless and even harmful. There was another just yesterday. Established, high rated facilities are not using it because it doesn't work. Only a crackpot would suggest they should be prescribing meds that don't work to carry water for the vulgar one.

Who gets to decide which hospitals are "established" and "high rated?" Henry Ford is a quaternary research facility with over 800 beds in the mothership alone. This study had a cohort over 2,500 patients. I don't care if the Trumps suffer a horrible fate. I will personally dance on their graves, BUT I don't think HQ is over with quite yet. These studies that involve patients in late-stage disease mean nothing except that, if one gives a large dose of a cardiotoxic drug to patients who have underappreciated cardiac damage from Covid as a separate variable, that study means nothing except for that cohort of patients. What drug given in large doses would ever be benign in late-stage disease? What I don't have the intelligence to figure out is how a study conducted among early stage or health people (doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists) exposed to large viral loads....that study design is beyond my scope. When I see it is useless for ANYONE, then I will gladly assign it to the garbage and hope that Trump crony pharmaceutical companies will suffer the loss. Did I say that I would take a certain person's prostate with a grapefruit spoon? But that doesn't mean that more research would be good IMHO.

My point, to you and others who hate Trump is to take Trump out of the equation with regard to hydrochloroquinine.
Now, let's imagine Trump never said anything about HCQ. The evidence on the use of this med for COVID is mixed. It does appear to help some people. Therefore, any medical professional out there who refuses to use it for patients that might benefit from it is unethical.
As for side effects, for goodness's sake, every med has side effects. HCQ has been around a long time, so we know the side effects and can monitor patients appropriately for them.
This whole discussion is becoming ridiculous. It would be more productive to discuss when HCQ should and should not be used.

You are not debating an actual nursing point of view. I am not saying the poster is not a nurse. The view point presented is not an actual view point relative to nursing, but a set of political talking points.
Proof and evidence went out the window when "alternative facts" was introduced to the public.
Trying to debate this set of talking points only gives the opportunity to post more talking points blaming the CDC, WHO, Obama, Big foot, space aliens.....
Or yet another truly offensive post comparing basic health measures to Nazism, or calling those of us willing to take basic precautions for other cowards who live in fear.
Debating these completely insubstantial talking points just give another opportunity for more of the same.

Frustratingly true.
