Irritating Classmates

Published

I know we've all seen the threads about those classmates that makes us want to stick a knife in our head, but I'm at wits end at this point. We're only halfway through the program, but the amount of noise, drama, and childishness from some of them is giving me headaches.

There's the girl that has a question every three minutes who also has the family member who has had every known disease. She's also the one who has always says, "Ok, I thought the book said _________ so on the test what's the answer going to be?"

There are the two girls that think they're cool and in some kind of reality show but actually come across as spoiled, overly needy brats like the trash you'd see on Jersey Shore. They're the loud ones that always have to comment in manners such as "WOW, OMG, or WOAH." They actually say the letters O, M, G.

Finally, there's the girl who thinks we're all a close knit group who is seemingly unaware of the cliques and factions going on. She's our designated classleader who doesn't lead. I'm not sure why a school program needs a student leader, but that's an issue I can't change I suppose.

I've been yelled at, cursed out, spit on, and fought with, but the amount of drama that I mentioned above is far worse than anything I ever experienced from drunks and crackheads on the streets. I know people are diverse, but I can't even stand going to class anymore because it all needs to be reigned in.

I have YET to have a class in all my years in school where there was NO ONE in it that made me hurl, roll my eyes, or whatever. I have dealt with every one of the characters you described. I am resigned to the fact that they will continue to troll the future classes I take. And I will just have to grin and bear it. :(

There's an art to bragging, and most who do it are clearly not artists; it's obnoxious. And no, I'm not jealous.

Sounds like your program is perfect for preparing you for the world of nursing. The drama queens and valley girls seem to be a common type in the nursing "profession". You will also find a good assortment of golddiggers(got to marry me a doctor),and martyr complexs and doctor wan-a-be s. Hang in there- there are also a good number of smart, professional, dedicated nurses in practice. The longer you are in the profession, the more mature nurses who want to practice good patient care you are going to find. The best you can do is try to stick to why you are in the school-to learn, and try to stay out of the drama.

I'm overjoyed that your dad/mom/cousin is a doctor in a major hospital. That DOES NOT make you one. Please stop indulging the class with stories they've told you (HIIPA violation, anyone?) or how they've already promised you a job somewhere. Good for you. And I still don't care.

Yes, you're a single mom with kids to raise, working full time and going to nursing school. Good for you. I'm sure there's a red "S" stamped on your shirts, and that you've got a 4.0 and have gotten every scholarship offered by the school. Good for you. Enough already.

If you don't understand something, stop complaining that it's "stupid" or "doesn't apply to nursing." Those excuses show the persoanlity of a complainer and a whiner. Wait till you get out there in the REAL nursing world.

Yes, you're a paramedic/EMT/work in a doctor's office. Please stop telling the class that you "do things this way" if they differ from what's presented in class. And the way you tell the class comes across that you're somehow better than the rest of us because of that. Well, you're not. Time to get over it. Like now.

Can you at least show some sense of hygiene when you're in class? Coming in to class wearing Spongebob pajamas, slippers, or ultra tight pants with your thong hanging out is gross. Some of you guys reek of cigarette smoke (the ones who "advocate" good health for their patients are the most guilty) and constantly have that phelgmmy cough throughout class that annoys everyone else.

If you're going to study, please study at home. Flipping through your notes 10 minutes before an exam and saying things like "Can you explaqin this to me..." or "I think the teacher meant this..." is REALLY annoying and shows a lack of time management on your part. We only had 3 freakin' weeks to study for the exam. So when you ask me a question, and I shrug and say "I don't know", I'm really saying "Please don't bother me. I studied. You didn't." You need to spend more time studying rather than hanging out at bars or having sex with some of the guys in class.

Part of life is dealing with obnoxious people. You get them everywhere. Just keep telling yourself how much longer you have to deal with it, like "only 6 more months..."

Yeah, then you get out in the real world and have to deal with patients and co-workers like this. :lol2:

Grrrr I know exactly what you mean! I think in every cohort, there will be some clashing personalities.

My specific pet peeves:

-Asking the instructor after every topic "whats on the exam?"

-Using class time to ask questions about material that is explained in the text book, or next slide, when its obvious they read neither. Its not fair to those who spend hours doing the reading to have class time used as a study guide. Look at the book, then ask the questions.

-Making comments or asking questions off topic. Im in an accelerated program which means classes are double time and time is limited. Stopping every so often to discuss how 'this could possibly happen' or 'what would happen if' or 'basically saying I'm a know it all and Id like to impress everyone with my knowledge so let me ask this question and start a debate'; it really takes away from material that needs to be presented, and then we can not even complete the class.

Ive got 3 classes left to go. Best advice...speak up. We've gotten positive results by asking the teacher to emphasize that certain discussions should take place after class.

I didn't let my employees act like that. Keep them busy and they can't stand around to complain and gossip. ;)

That's why I basically refuse to talk about my past experience as a medic in class. Somehow I let it slip out once while we were doing something, and people ask things about it from time to time especially one of the teachers. I haven't worked as one though since Feb. 2006, lol.

Hello!!

I couldn't find in the Nursing Brochure for the ADN program at a small school in Northern Indiana, the DRAMA and Back Stabbing "B" Club!!!!!! Holy Smokes the DRAMA!!!!!:argue: I am honestly glad that I didn't pass the semester!! I could not get over the catty, back stabbing behavior by students and staff...

It was un-real. I am at the point now that I REFUSE to go back this coming fall and re-take my Fundamentals of Nursing here due to all the BS that goes on. I honestly wanted to rip my hair out

I am no a spring chicken by any means, I will be 34 in April and was looking foward to learning about how to help people and save lives, and be with other adults, but NO WAY!!!!:no:

I feel better that I wasn't the only one feeling this way... Whew

This is why on test days I went to class with headphones in my ear. They cant ask questions if I cant hear them

They might not do it around you but don't disillusion yourself. They are going to do it, busy or not. Especially in nursing. And, what are you going to do with the patients who are like this? It seems that every patient knows a nurse and because they know a nurse, they automatically have all of their knowledge. There's no getting around patients or families like this. It's best just to smile and be on your way.
