Irritating Classmates

I know we've all seen the threads about those classmates that makes us want to stick a knife in our head, but I'm at wits end at this point. We're only halfway through the program, but the amount of noise, drama, and childishness from some of them is giving me headaches.

There's the girl that has a question every three minutes who also has the family member who has had every known disease. She's also the one who has always says, "Ok, I thought the book said _________ so on the test what's the answer going to be?"

There are the two girls that think they're cool and in some kind of reality show but actually come across as spoiled, overly needy brats like the trash you'd see on Jersey Shore. They're the loud ones that always have to comment in manners such as "WOW, OMG, or WOAH." They actually say the letters O, M, G.

Finally, there's the girl who thinks we're all a close knit group who is seemingly unaware of the cliques and factions going on. She's our designated classleader who doesn't lead. I'm not sure why a school program needs a student leader, but that's an issue I can't change I suppose.

I've been yelled at, cursed out, spit on, and fought with, but the amount of drama that I mentioned above is far worse than anything I ever experienced from drunks and crackheads on the streets. I know people are diverse, but I can't even stand going to class anymore because it all needs to be reigned in.

 Spare us. People have the right to vent; that's what this forum is for.

Vent all you want. I'm just saying. People also have a right to respond so save it :p.

Yeah but you come across as a huge debbie downer in a vent about people we hate in class.

can i just say i read the first few lines of this and went "OH MY GOD" because we have 1 particular person in our class thats the SAME way. im so glad to see its like that in other nursing programs!

all the drama and cliques is inevitable especially in a program in school where you move around from class to class with the same group of people for 2+ years.

Well, with 18 years on the floor/bedside experience, I don't need to start at the beginning for some hand holding guided lecture of what I do on a daily basis.

I am at a point I get it. I have advisors at my beck and call to guide me also. I am in no way all alone in my learning. Not even close. You really need to know of what you speak negatively about.

I get amazing inservices at work over the exact same topics of Alzheimer's, new drugs, new infection control and I make beds, give baths, hand out meds, start IVs, assess pts, chart, input on care plans, take vitals.....and have for 18 long years.

Excelsior College is a NLN Center for Education Excellence, one of 7 out of thousands. They didn't get that being unhelpful in teaching or making learning unaccessable to their students.

I've taken and even taught online classes. I know of what I speak.

I'm glad it works for you. Because it's a complete mismatch to my learning style doesn't mean I don't know what I'm speaking about....it means what I said....I'll gladly tolerate irritating classmates, in order to benefit from amazing lecturers and easy face-to-face access with my professors.

Best of luck in pursuing your education.

That's kind of hard to do isn't it? Yep, sure is. Thanks for nothing.

Evidently it's harder for some than others. Personally....it's not that hard, sorry you find it so. There are actual problems in the world....this isn't one for me, looks like it is for you.

Are we in the same class?

HeyImThatGuy -

I am also a nontrad, I would love you be in your class. My non=verbals are 0bvious as well. I say what I'm thinking far too often - those who get it laugh,

those who don't, well you know.

I'm planning to start in the Fall, and have already ran into these types in pre-

reqs. Even though the waste of time is frustrating, I do believe they will

eventually weed themselves out.

Yeah, obviously, I wouldn't have posted about it if it weren't a problem. Of the fourteen of us in class I'm not the only one who feels this way. The length and frequency of our class time and our being confined with such idiots has made this an issue. It's yet another actual problem in the world.

Seriously, our teacher tells us that we can see her after class with any questions, but I have to stand in line after class as the the 3 over-achievers in front of me tell her how their patients hugged them, how they gave their first shot, how they're the first person in their family that went to college, how their kids help them make their note cards.....blah blah blah... WHO CARES? I'm standing there, rolling my eyes with the "Oh no here we go again look" and I have a question that pertained to the lecture that I would like answered. Our teacher has been teaching nursing longer than some of us have been alive, do you think she's going to jump up and down and say "Whoopee, good for you, you're the FIRST nursing student that had their patient hugged them!" Seriously, go post your stories on Facebook or text it to one of your gaggle of "friends" you hang out with.

How do I hate thee let me count the ways ahahaha...this topic made my day.

Ughhhh can I start with that? I have a lady who is just like that she's much older and she knows it all. I'm not sure why she's even in my class really she should be teaching it because she is so smart and knows everything there is about nursing, it's amazing!!!

Okay really though this wonderous lady followed me through a whole bunch of my pre-req's and I show up for my first day of class and guess who???? The first day she was so quiet I thought, "Oh yahhh maybe she won't act like this no!" No way it only lasted taht one day :(

But I find this to be a more suitable topic for me: Irritating classmates/professors/everything.......

WOW! Like other posters, I thought this only occurred in my class...Honestly, I thought the cliquey-ness, childishness, and constant asking for the answers to the test ended with high school. Apparently, I stand corrected.

There's a row of girls in my class that has become known as the "chatty patty" row. Things got so bad in my class during second quarter with the stupid questions and rude chit chat during lecture that a few of us went to the professors and asked them to address it. Thankfully, they did and so far things have calmed down quite a bit; although things flair up occasionally when one chatty patty goes through their bazillionth breakup. Oh, and we also have one of those people that has every disease known to man...

I'm convinced that nursing school would be less stressful without such people in class!
