If you won the lottery would you still work in health care?

A fun what if question, we used to toss this around on night shift.

Specializes in ER.

I would pay off all my loved ones' debts and laugh at all the aunts and uncles who think I would give them a dime. Then I would continue my education, maybe become a midwife. And work for fun only.... not have to worry about patient quotas and stuff.

Specializes in geri,acute,subacute,correctional,pysch,.

Yes, I would still work in health care. I would open a clinic that was free, safe and compassionate health care for all that needed it. I would make sure I had enouph money for my life and my daughters life. The rest could be spent on others in need.

Specializes in ortho, hospice volunteer, psych,.

assuming i were still physically able, then yes! nothing much would change.

Specializes in ER/ICU/STICU.

Yes. I would work in a VA hospital and donate my paychecks to various veterans organizations.

at my age, not for a noo yawk minute, you should pardon the expression. life is too short. i have lots of other things i can be doing. maybe i'd finally be able to get red sox season tickets ... go camping again ... visit my grandchildren anytime the mood struck me ... there's all that sewing glaring at me in my back hall ... finish those home repairs i keep putting off ... have money to give to charity and to my kids ... see paris and singapore... work? hell, no. i've been working for 47 years ; enough is enough.

but, umm, ed macmahon has not come to my door. i'll be working until i can't. :D

Nope - not in a nursing job.

However I would use my nursing knowledge and experience to develop a charitable organisation in the healthcare field.

For example - how many low income seniors could benefit from hearing aides? new glasses?

I've been asked this before and yes I would.

I get bored sitting in my house.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . I do this job for the money. If that need is gone, the need for this job or any job goes with it!

I would take great satisfaction out of throwing my degree in the ocean.

I might even attach a chain and weights out of spite.

This had me laughing out loud!:yeah:

I'd want to resucue animals and treat them under a vet's supervision. I'd buy a small house in the middle of nowhere with great hiking trails and where my dog could run without a leash, I'd have barn cats, house cats and horses. I'd have a million books and a cozy corner to read. I'd stay up all night reading. I'd do artwork and take classes. I would volunteer for disaster areas after floods, tornado's hurricanes, or a few trips to areas with no acess to health care.

Mostly I'd take pleasure in paying off my friends and families bills. I'd invest of course, and work on helping my families unborn dreams come to life, one is a wonderful writer, another an artist, another loves science, imagine being able to work without fear of a grant running out or politics shutting down your lab and research. I would go back to school for fun. I'd go to the beach, learn to speak french, spanish and American sign, if I got good enough I'd be a translator for the deaf. I would also audition for plays but not let on I had any money so I would only be used if I was good, not lousy but rich. I could go on and on, but I never get around to playing the lottery..need to start.
