If you won the lottery would you still work in health care?

A fun what if question, we used to toss this around on night shift.

One sad thing to think about, is if you stayed working, you could open yourself to potential lawsuits. There was a lucky nurse in the hospital I was working in 10 years ago who actually did win the lottery...when Risk Management found out about it, while they were happy for her..they asked her to resign, too much of a liability...too many people are lawsuit happy today and will try at the drop of a hat. There had been publicity about her winning in the papers so many people knew..but she had still planned on working until they asked her to leave.

I probably wouldn't work at all. Too many hobbies, interests, volunteer opportunities.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I would never punch another time clock in my lifetime or work in healthcare ever again if I were to win a multimillion dollar lottery jackpot. To some people, the healthcare worker is the equivalent of a verbal punching bag.

Specializes in LTC, Disease Management, smoking Cessati.

NO!! I'd take care of me for a while :)

Specializes in medicine, hospice.

I'd probably volunteer but not work for pay.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Home health.

I was actually just thinking about this the other day. I'd go volunteer to help rescue sea turtles and focus on photography.

I would but it wouldn't be as a CNA. I would work behind the scenes and make some changes.

Specializes in Ortho and Tele med/surg.

Heck No!!!! Sorry, I am not gluten for an abusive environment that does not treat us with respect.

Specializes in Trauma/Critical Care.

That would be the first thing I'd do!!

Then I would buy the hospital... and fire everyone in management. The look in their faces: priceless :biggringi

Specializes in geriatrics.

Yes but I would work 3 to 4 days a month versus the 13 I currently work.

Specializes in Clinical Research, Outpt Women's Health.

no! i might do some volunteer stuff that involved health care, but that would be it.

Specializes in School Nursing.

No, I would not.

I would probably finish out the year at my school nurse position, however, because they would likely be hard pressed to find a replacement (and technically I'm under contract!)

After that, adios nursing! Not to say I would not do something...I could never not do something worthwhile. My guess is I would either open an animal rescue or go to Vet school.
