I don't know if I am just hard hearted after so many years of nursing, or if I have just seen too many malingerers, or just too many people who blame their problems on anything and everyone but themselves. But if I answered half the posts on here with what I really feel, I think I would be thrown off.
is this the one you're talking about?https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/fired-no-reason-368510.html
wow! i had no idea that one had so many responses! there's a lot of good information in that thread -- and a few examples of how not to behave, respond to criticism, etc. there are a few other missives out there on precepting and orienting. it's probably time for another.
probably still around, although i'd have to search for it. if you find it, let me know.
(brief ot question) that reminds me -- ruby did you ever locate the post about perceptions of calm nurses seeming to be cold vs the warm and fuzzy nurses? your praise of it made me interested in it, too.
i will...thanks. i was not sure if you wound up just deleting it based on the reactions.
there were two that the moderators deleted . . . i thought they were funny examples of what not to do. the moderators disagreed. but there are also the "fired for no reason" thread and a couple of articles or threads on orientation and on precepting. i'm about ready to write another one in honor of a former orientee of mine who was afraid to read allnurses.com because i might write about her. i haven't -- but i'm going to. she was afraid i'd write about how clueless she is/was. i'm going to write about her because she's not. i'm very lucky -- i always get the best orientees!

nope. haven't found it yet. people have pointed me toward several of my own posts where i've paraphrased from that post . . . but i haven't found that particular one again. it was so clearly and beautifully written -- i really wish i'd saved it!
many moons ago, i went to the trouble to post a lengthy article in an attempt to help out new grads who are just starting in the icu -- and got all sorts of hostility for my trouble, including pms telling me i must be the worst preceptor in the world and that i obviously ate my young and was a bully. there were some pretty colorful posts and messages about my alleged vicousness to all newbies. the sad thing was, i really was trying to help, and i think i *did* help those who read it that way. unfortunately, there's always plenty of people looking to be offended. and they usually find something offensive.
if one more new nurse comes onto this site and starts complaining about experienced nurses eating their young i don't know what i am going to do. the minute i hear that phrase i just want to smack my computer. poor little computer.
cue, three, two, one, ba boom...to new post about nurses eating their young. anyone care to lay odds?:spbox:
It ain't just a long career in nursing that makes one feel that way. I still smell like nursing school, and my tongue stays sore from biting it to stop myself from telling some people what fools they are.
Same here. I've often wanted to ask if some posters have ever actually had a job before or worked with people in any capacity. You're not going to like everyone and not everyone is going to like you. It's part of life, suck it up. Why is nursing some magical fairy land where every single person ges along wonderfully with every other person? Grr..
And, to jump on the Ruby Vee bandwagon--I'd love to precept with you. I always learn a lot from your posts! It's crazy that others can't see the great resources on here.
Which is why I've been a memeber since 2003 and only have 500+ post. Don't get me wrong. I have learned a lot and received some valuable advice here. Even made some friends that I converse with outside of AN.
Sometimes I want to shout "there IS such a thing as a stupid question!!"
It's why I hardly ever post here any more. Occasionally extreme boredom or a question will bring me back. Most of the posts I read, I either want to deliver a punch to the face through the monitor or simply weep in my beer for the present and future of my profession. I have little tolerance for bullsh$&, and I am NOT a group hug sort of person.I was getting so many pms for language and content that I decided I should not visit often, and only post occasionally when I do...just helpful, benign comments are my main m. o. now.
Except for this one. Bluegrass, get back on the wagon, beyoch!
