I just feel that I would feel in much better hands if I had nurses that were sexy

this radio dj "reviews" his hospital stay. he feels he would be in "better hands if i had nurses that were sexy". grrr!! tired of men thinking nurses are pin-up girls in stiletto heels wearing white miniskirts! what a jerk!

hey whats up? big boy here. as a lot of people may have noticed i have not been on the radio much the past couple of days. that is because i have been in the hospital. since i have not been able to share some of my experiences on-air i thought i would do it right here online.

first of all i am in here because i have a skin infection called cellulitis. it is on my right leg and it really sucks. it has been very painful but thank god for pain meds. when you really need them they are truly a blessing. as far as the rest of my experience, i guess it has been okay other than a few major flaws. first off i know no one likes to be in the hospital (other than my dad). one thing that is truly messed up in the health system is in order to be admitted to the hospital you have to go through e.r. now just to walk through the door of the e.r your looking at about a $2,000 charge at least so if you do not have insurance or you are poor you’re screwed. i feel like that is wrong and should be stopped but you know how that goes doctors and politicians walk hand in hand.

my next biggest complaint is by far the food. the nearly 8 grand price tag it cost to be admitted to the hospital should totally include some 5 star food like steak and lobster. i realize it is not a resort but i do think part of the getting well process should be great comfort food. my next thing was the room accommodations, with it being a hospital it obviously gets a great vote for being clean but the beds are basically cheap foam and cotton covered in water proof plastic. i swear my bed could be used as a flotation device. i have greatly enjoyed all of the buttons my bed has to offer as i treated it like a theme park ride all weekend. it has kept me amused. however i have to be in this bed pretty much at all times. my back and my butt are killing me. they need some nice pillow top mattresses so people can sleep well.

my last thing is maybe the least important but it would be a nice change in community hospitals. i know there are a lot i repeat a lot of sexy nurses here in the tri-state. during my stay i had none. i had a few that were as evil as they were ugly. one lady was like 70 and she seemed as if she had just had a stroke. there was even one bigger than me with very hairy man arms as well as a few that were very nice and helpful. i just feel that i would feel in much better hands if i had nurses that were sexy. i would want them stabbing me with needles, checking my vitals and doing to me what ever the doc ordered. any chance to get them to touch me would be amazing. well that is my hospital experience and what i feel that it should be. please leave me your feed back below

Then too bad he chose to dish out how unattractive he thought the nurses were, as opposed to telling everyone the ACTUAL TRUTH: how they fed him, kept him clean, and gave him antibiotics and pain meds!

But you see, that wouldn't get ratings. Listeners who enjoy shock jocks want to be titillated. They don't care about nurses being competent; they care about nurses being sexy (or not sexy enough).

Ever listen to Howard Stern? What do you think he'd say about being in the hospital? That his nurses were competent and caring or that they didn't feed him steak and lobster and look like Hooters' waitresses?

I didn't read the whole thread so forgive me if this has been repeated. But I was reading some comments about his review on the website and he did apologize. At least he realized he was a jerk.

"I want to tell everyone that I offended that I am sorry. I realize my blog could have been taken as offensive. I was angry because I hate being sick and hate it even more when I am in the hospital. I should not have singled out nurses. My Mom is a nurse and I know it is a very hard and stressful job. I did not mean to offend anyone, I just wanted share my issues I have with the health system. I guess I just did it the wrong way."

IMO, an apology is too little, too late from this orifice.

I also think it almost makes things WORSE, because if he had been "joking," he would have said so. Instead, in his apology, he says he was "sharing the issues he has with the health system." That, to me, says that those are his legitimate complaints.

I'll say again, I realize it's his "job" to *shock* people (as PP's have pointed out), but there IS such a thing as going too far. Because there are people that will find truth to his original statements, they ARE damaging, joke or not. Some have pointed out that this has served as "publicity" for him, but contrary to popular belief, NOT all publicity is a good thing. He's making himself look bad, not funny, and the pictures sure aren't helping his case.

Perhaps before his next stay, they should get a nice pillow top mattress. And give it to a c-diff pt first. Then see which he prefers - the pillow top or the plastic top! I tell my pts - the mattresses and pillows are covered in plastic for a reason!

i'd send the details about this cretin (name, show, station, etc.) to sandy summers of truth about nursing (google for more info). she's a pro at dealing with inaccurate portrayals of nursing in the media and will get on him like white on rice.
