I just feel that I would feel in much better hands if I had nurses that were sexy

this radio dj "reviews" his hospital stay. he feels he would be in "better hands if i had nurses that were sexy". grrr!! tired of men thinking nurses are pin-up girls in stiletto heels wearing white miniskirts! what a jerk!

hey whats up? big boy here. as a lot of people may have noticed i have not been on the radio much the past couple of days. that is because i have been in the hospital. since i have not been able to share some of my experiences on-air i thought i would do it right here online.

first of all i am in here because i have a skin infection called cellulitis. it is on my right leg and it really sucks. it has been very painful but thank god for pain meds. when you really need them they are truly a blessing. as far as the rest of my experience, i guess it has been okay other than a few major flaws. first off i know no one likes to be in the hospital (other than my dad). one thing that is truly messed up in the health system is in order to be admitted to the hospital you have to go through e.r. now just to walk through the door of the e.r your looking at about a $2,000 charge at least so if you do not have insurance or you are poor you’re screwed. i feel like that is wrong and should be stopped but you know how that goes doctors and politicians walk hand in hand.

my next biggest complaint is by far the food. the nearly 8 grand price tag it cost to be admitted to the hospital should totally include some 5 star food like steak and lobster. i realize it is not a resort but i do think part of the getting well process should be great comfort food. my next thing was the room accommodations, with it being a hospital it obviously gets a great vote for being clean but the beds are basically cheap foam and cotton covered in water proof plastic. i swear my bed could be used as a flotation device. i have greatly enjoyed all of the buttons my bed has to offer as i treated it like a theme park ride all weekend. it has kept me amused. however i have to be in this bed pretty much at all times. my back and my butt are killing me. they need some nice pillow top mattresses so people can sleep well.

my last thing is maybe the least important but it would be a nice change in community hospitals. i know there are a lot i repeat a lot of sexy nurses here in the tri-state. during my stay i had none. i had a few that were as evil as they were ugly. one lady was like 70 and she seemed as if she had just had a stroke. there was even one bigger than me with very hairy man arms as well as a few that were very nice and helpful. i just feel that i would feel in much better hands if i had nurses that were sexy. i would want them stabbing me with needles, checking my vitals and doing to me what ever the doc ordered. any chance to get them to touch me would be amazing. well that is my hospital experience and what i feel that it should be. please leave me your feed back below

You know, for all those people who say "What's the big deal?" or "I'm a guy and I like hot women, where's the problem with that?". Please grow up. I'm glad you're a guy and you like hot women...I like hot men, but it is fully inappropriate and UNGRATEFUL for the *sswipe of this topic to complain about his hospital stay because his nurse wasn't cute. Our profession isn't to look sexy, last time I checked that was for those who wished to work for Playboy and Hustler. I work at a hospital and spent a lot of time and money to learn to care for people and pieces of crap like this guy should be grateful that anyone gives a rats a** about him, including a "70 year old crone".

And for the crazy dumb people who replied, " he was giving a compliment to the sexy women of the area". Please, who else here is that ignorant? Does it matter that he was 'complimenting' the sexy nurses of the area if he was critizining the older nurse who probably took really good care of his slobby, lard-butt while he was in the hospital JUST because she was old? Hello retard, your going to get old too!

And the woman who dresses sexy for her husband...that's great. I'm glad you feel sexy, but to be proud of your profession because of it's history as being a side line profession for prostitues is kind of messed up. In case you haven't noticed we've been trying to move AWAY from that image so that other medical professionals will take us seriously and your attitude is not helping.

I feel that I would not want you angry with me! LOL! People like you will help the immature people in our profession come around! Good for you

For those of you who are offended by what you read, remember, Evansville is the 160th largest radio market in the US, just behind places like Huntington WV and slightly larger than Poughkeepsie, NY. Sounds like a case of big mouth/small pond-itis.

If he had been my patient (and he would have because there's no way I'd let any of the women I work with near him) we'd have discussed his attitude and set an expectation for his behavior. We even have a pt rights/pt resposibilities hand out we could discuss. Nobody messes with the women on my team when I'm around. They're the best team in the business IMHO, and they've always got my back. And that's why I love them (in a strictly platonic and professional way ;)) and look out for them as best I can.

And if I found him standing on the window like that he'd be sedated, in soft restraints and waiting for a psych consult right quick.

Sounds like he is some type of wanna-be. Just hope he doesn't think he is going to get a job in Huntington! (That's where I'm from:) I appreciated your post and the fact that you do and would take up for your team. I think the restraints needed to be upgraded to leathers ;)

and somewhere his momma softly weeps....
THAT, to me, was most telling.

I don't know if he is being truthful that his Mother is a nurse.

Truthful? How nice to know that he respects his Mother and her profession by describing people like her in such colourful terms! "Mom, you old crone! I wish you were hot!"

Lies? How pathetic that he tries to curry favour by dragging in his Mother?

I know im gonna get some hate flame for this one. I am a male and males do notice these things. Makes you feel kinda good walking in for a quick X-ray and find out "O what a nice atmosphere in here, nah I don't mind the wait at all".:lol2:
I'm a male. And yeah, I do notice attractive females.

In fact, I work with a bunch of awesome people and a lot of 'em are beautiful, attractive, intelligent young women.

I've also come across similar examples in my patient population - pretty, attractive, intelligent women.

kalvera, the problem isn't beauty, or attractiveness ... the problem is "objectification".

"Why can't my patients be more like Victoria's Secret lingerie models?"

This has nothing to do with being prudes or y'all should lighten up. It has everything to do with demeaning a person ('old crone'? Really??!) and generalizing that to an entire profession.

It is appalling. Galling. Insulting. Despicable.

You like playing "hottie cop" or "naughty nurse" - do what you wish in your private life, you'll brook no argument from me.

But leave that where it belongs - behind closed doors.

Don't demean the cloth we share with puerile fantasies...

My Mom is a nurse and I know it is a very hard and stressful job. I did not mean to offend anyone, I just wanted share my issues I have with the health system. I guess I just did it the wrong way."

Yeah right!

Just because you're a "shock jock" doesn't mean you won't be held responsible for the trash you spew.

This is the kind of moron that hits on the nurse while his wife is delivering their baby.

I worked too damn long and hard for my degree and I still work too damn long and hard, and spend too much time away from my family, to take GOOD care of my patients for this windbag to spout this tripe. Where's that 'Terms we will not admit to using' thread when I need it? I think someone posted an abbreviation like PPP, for **** poor protoplasm. That's an abbreviation I'd be willing to use in this instance....

Ahhhh. *cracks knuckles*....That feels much better.

He probably wouldn't want to see me, bald, 50ish, and male.

T

Same here, but I am closer to 60 than 50. Heck, if I posted my face on Facebook; they would shut the site down. :jester:

The "DJ" is an example of why satellite radio is becoming more popular lately... generally less talk and more music; not quite the Drake-Chenault "Much More Music" format (look that up in your Funk & Wagnalls :D ), but still few, if any, DJ's who say and do stupid stuff. He generally makes radio peepz look bad.

Maybe he should have gone to Cuba for treatment of his cellulitis, where his care would have been free and far better than what he received in the US. ;)

"In case you haven't noticed we've been trying to move AWAY from that image so that other medical professionals will take us seriously and your attitude is not helping. "

Its hard to take anyone seriously when they are using words like: crazy, dumb, ignorant & retard to decribe people with differing opinions.

I'd far rather have a nurse that practiced using the lobes between her ears instead of the ones on her chest. For male nurses, I guess it would be big brain rather than big anything else.

I'm all for celebrating healthy sexuality, but to frame your self-image in terms of how hot you are and the fact that your husband has a tattoo of you is very sad.

i'd send the details about this cretin (name, show, station, etc.) to sandy summers of truth about nursing (google for more info). she's a pro at dealing with inaccurate portrayals of nursing in the media and will get on him like white on rice.

i emailed her :D here is her response:

hi sherri,

thanks for your message and for joining our group. i wish he was unique in his thinking!

i read the thread beneath his blog posting and he appears to have heard the concerns that many nurses expressed to him (good for those nurses!), so we're thinking of leaving him alone since he appears to have gotten the message. his mom's a nurse and he makes public comments like that. ick.

anyway, we have plenty more people with ignorant impressions of nursing to tackle and we need you to join us to educate them! here's one for instance.

new show called whitney. we're beginning to analyze it, hopefully have this out in a couple weeks.

looking forward to working with you!

sandy

the radio station took down the blog, and i am so happy to hear that. that's the power of nursing baby. or is it pine-sol? hmm :D
