I got a tour of the unit. Means I'm hired?

So I was interviewed yesterday by the recruiter and then the director. The director gave me a tour of her department. Does a tour mean they want to hire you? Or giving applicants tours is required of the interviewers?

She then asked me to come back day after (that is today) so the manager can interview me.

This is my second job interview. Just wondering. And why am I being passed down to be interviewed by the managers? She's already the director...

No, a tour does not mean you got the job. While she is the director, the direct manager you would be working for (should you get the job) needs to interview you as well to be sure you fit the current needs of the unit and fit in with the group already working on the unit. No, it means your first interview wasn't a disqualifier. Perhaps these managers on the second interview will be more directly supervising you.

We gave tours to all the interviews regardless of if we were going to hire them or not (we usually didn't make the decision until afterwards after reviewing all interviews).

They send you to the floor to be interviewed by the managers to see if you are a good fit, since your manager will be working directly with you.

Good luck but the tour does not mean you get the job. I get tours on every interview and introduced to staff.

And several times I've not gotten a tour and still got an offer.

Now, I will say that I don't like this. Candidates that are not going to be hired should not be toured or given an opportunity to shadow.

We do some working interviews with potential hires shadowing. We want to see how they relate to patients in their homes, questions they ask of clinical staff when not under the pressure of a formal interview, plus make sure they have a better idea of the job as most are new to home health. We've done this with candidates who both nailed the formal interview and those who were nervous/awkward, we're not looking for professional interviewers and a good nurse can be nervous and not show their genuine personality, and personality is a key quality for us.

The tour is still part of the interview for many hiring managers. I know people that use the tour to see how the candidate gets along with the other staff on the unit and to see how engaged they are with the environment. They look for interactions with the staff they introduce the candidate to and they look to see if the candidate asks questions about what they see.

I don't think it means you're hired. It's been my experience that if you get a tour or are asked to come shadow, they are interested.

We give everyone a tour. If we like the candidate, we ask them to come back to interview with others. Good luck!

I interviewed with 4 different managers at the hospital I work at (large teaching hospital) All managers gave me a tour. Only one (the 4th) hired me. I still had to go through 3 more interviews before I was hired. A tour is just a tour.
