Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship

Published

I thought I would start a thread for those who have applied, do that we can keep each other posted on what is going on with the process. Also here to promote tons of positivity for everyone.

When I changed my bank account one time, it created all sorts of problems - I actually did not end up getting my stipend until a month and a half later. If I recall correctly they had my bank routing number in their system listed under a different bank and it took that long to figure out what the problem was. I had everything correct and they had the correct numbers - they just had them linked to the wrong bank name. It was a very stressful process.

Aaaaaah. This whole tuition repayment is ridiculous. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I haven't figured out how to get them to repay my tuition when I *have* to take out loans to pay for school or I'm not allowed to attend.. if HRSA pays after school has already started, how do I go about getting them to pay my tuition?

Specializes in CTICU/CVICU.

Hi all...I'm considering applying for this scholarship in 2009-2010...one question..is it true that you have to have NEVER been more than 31 days late on any federal loans, including student loans?

Please let me know. Thanks!

That's my concern. I took out loans to pay for my tuition also, but my school said that they can send the loan money back. So I hope it works out :/

Hey All,

My school billed HRSA for the amount that was left after any scholarships or grants was applied to my account. HRSA paid the difference.

With regards to the delinquency question. I believe you can't be more than 30 days late on any loan from the government.

I hope this helps. :wink2:

How much do you receive every month for the stipedend and the ORC?

Hey does anyone know when we'll receive our W2s or are they available online because from what I understand that money is taxable and we're paying federal taxes on it so it should definitely be included on our taxes...and I know for me it will increase my refund by about $3000 so I'm interested to see when we'll get them. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as everything else has...any old people know how this works and a timeframe? Thanks guys :wink2:

As far as I can remember they send a W-2, and I don't remember it taking very long to get. Definitely by the end of January. Remember to add any tuition they paid though (not as income but reported another place on the tax form)- I messed up last year, and now I owe IRS 3,000. Totally my fault and if your school isn't crazy expensive like mine it won't make as much of a difference on your return.

I think it is that you cannot be currently more than 30 days late, not that you can not have ever been late.

I may be wrong though??!!

Except for location, hows this scholarship different from any hospital contract where they offer to pay for your studies in exchange for work upon graduation?

I hate that you have to have a $0 EFC.

Mine is high but my mom does not pay my tuition, I have $15,000 in loans :(.

Maybe I should ask my mom not to claim me ?

Monthly stipend and then a payment every year for books and supplies. Most hospitals that I know of won't pay for your education until you are licensed. In fact, if they do pay your pre-licensure tuition it's usually in the form of tuition reimbursement...HRSA pays directly to the school.
