  1. NAKIGIRL 84...Where you decide to go is ultimately up to you.....and the mount may be a very excellent choice for you, as it turned out well for me, but sometimes the perceptions are altered from the realities, and I am only trying to tell you about some of them. I appreciate your comments, and 3 years ago, my life was quite like you described, except for I already had the kids, the bills, and the husband. Yes, MSMC is a great way to get started, I know the frusterations of waiting constantly for space in the CC. If you are going into the program directly meaning you haven't taken the sciences, I would say wait for the CC. The science level courses A&P, Micro do not transfer to other schools. One of the people who entered in the program as a pre-nursing student decided to go to Long Beach after taking the science courses at the mount found that the science courses don't meet the rigor of the CC programs. Another point is that according to the director, the pre-nursing studens are not "proven" right after I was admitted they instituted the ATI entrance exam, when I entered basic math was the only requirement. So, you still need to prove yourself after you've been admitted as a pre-nursing student, so you haven't gained anything really. The prenursing plan is a cash-cow, and sense you will probably be required to also complete the religious studies, bioethics course, you again have to pay for another class before you are proven "ready' Just as an FYI, the mount is rather generous with letting you transfer in your science credits from other schools while in the pre-nursing portion, which lowers your costs and improves the likelihood of tranferability, should for any reason the mount not work out. This is important. In my class of nearly 70, we lost nearly 25 the first semester. Many do not survive, and that is not to scare you, however, some just can't adjust or find nursing is not for them. Having transferable credits protects your academic future and gives you flexibility if and when you need it. If you have taken the pre-reqs, there is nothing to lose. However, for instance if you went to Mount SAC for example, getting a job with citris valley hospital would be easier because there are contracts between some of the CC's and hospitals. It is my sincere hope that by the time you are done, the current employment issues in the market will be gone, however, if they are not, coming out with huge loan payments and a delay in finding employment does not bring you any closer to where you wanna be, if you get my drift. All this said, of course the choice is yours, but this will literally be your life for the next 2-3 years, and it is important to due adequate due diligence on an institution before committing to this "life-style" You cannot transfer to another nursing program once you start, so it is so important you choose the "right" one before you are knee deep, even if that means waiting a semester.
  2. Congratulations... My hope continues to be renewed when I see these posts. Our turn is coming you all!!!!! YEAH FOR HOPEFULNEWGRAD!!!
  3. Oh Paleeze, harassment eh? You might want to go back to the previous pages and see all of your "rebutall" arguments that you were clearly responding to ME on. You definitely need to chill. Your aggressiveness will not win you fans at the mount, and thats for sure... Good luck!
  4. Look, I was not needing nor desiring apologies, least of all from someone who is trying to get something I already have. I having experienced and been where most of you all, are very much aware of the topic of the thread and offered my two cents, which I am allowed to do. Nobody said, including myself that I had a bad experience, but it is clear many are misinformed about the Mount, and I was merely informing you all because I have a slight advantage in that I attended and graduated the mount. You are not an any position to tell people which opinion they respectfully give on this board. If you disagree thats fine, however, you also have the option of blocking my posts. You once remarked that I am rude, however, you have been very very rude, and for someone who appears to know as little as you do about the mount, I would consider myself lucky someone was trying to impart a little about their experiences be it good bad or in between. Show a little grace and humility, instead of going tit for tat, insinuating people are telling lies, or bad-mouthing the school. It seems you are determined to give zero consideration to anything other than what you believe, and for that reason alone, I think you are going to need good luck!
  5. Well thats terrific. When you get to the mount and take kaplan, they will teach you everything you need to know about the ABC trap... It's a common one. I don't know the ins and outs of NCLEX PN, however, some people test out on NCLEX in 75 questions and fail. It would be impossible for an NCLEX RN candidate to responsibly take NCLEX RN in 45 mins, if they took it seriously.
  6. No I am referring to theory courses. And yes, there is only two theory instructors teaching at the mount who do not currently teach for west coast. The clinical teachers teach all over, and you are right. But the director and Assistant Director and just about all the rest of the instructors for theory teach at West Coast. Sometimes schools only name lead faculty, and not sure if thats the case on West Coast's website, but yep they are all there. After your orientation, as was after mine, they will tell you there are not many differences between the "trade" schools and the mount. I would have no need to make it up. I was shocked when it became apparent, but it is the truth!
  7. I'm sure as you can attest to, computerized adaptive testing on NCLEX isn't necessarily patient-centric.The reality is that the graduates have had to pay kaplan to show them how to take a test, that they've essentially been studying 3 years for! It's kinda funny, as I saw some folks pooh-pooing, West Coast College, and yet West Coast, Mount share the same director and about 10 of the same faculty members. The schools are essentially very identical.
  8. Could be.. I sure hope so. The tuition is far too high to not hold the same accreditations that other colleges and universities seem to hold. There was actually a faculty meeting about it which resulted in early dismissal... You tend to remember those days! I hope that it happens, I do know they had to bring up those terrible scores and since that is finally happening it may clear the way for adequate accreditation.
  9. According to faculty, the ADN program is trying to become CCNE accredited. When a school actively seeks accreditation its usually not just for fun!
  10. I will say also, that teaching you everything is not the point of nursing school, Much that is helpful that is learned is not out of a text book, but rather in application of the knowledge. What is necessary is how well a program prepares its students for NCLEX. Your knowledge base could be very small and do very well on NCLEX. In the recent past, the Mount's NCLEX pass rates were in the garbage, as they have worked in the last 1.5 years to retool their curricula and better prepare their students the rates have gotten better. The self teaching aspect becomes a problem when of course you don't know what to focus on, and there is a relatively small body of knowledge one needs to be able to do recall memory questions. This is where I think the mount could improve.
  11. Look, I was not trying to be rude, and if you take it that way i am sorry, I am here to explain to you all, I was where you are at. With a bad economy just explore your choices....:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe The anticipation of getting in and getting it over shouldn't be the only consideration. Take it from someone who made that mistake! ETA: YOU ALL CAN PM ME IF YOU NEED ANY HELP WHATSOEVER. I WISH YOU ALL GOOD LUCK, and I think you will find the school experience with your peers enjoyable regardless of where you are accepted!!!
  12. Well I am happy for you. Pre-nursing students are always seem to know way more than those living the consequence. The mount is a good school for some and not for others. The market does not allow us at this point to be selective about where we "aspire" to work. I see you are an LVN, which means you are only a year out, presuming you are doing the 30 credit option.... you most likely will be entering into the same crappy 'no new grad" economy I am in. Unless you will have employment waiting on you when you come out at your current facility, I would advise you and the others to give careful consideration to the monetary feature of the mount, lack of acceptable accreditation, and numerous other factors that not only impact your employability after school, but your sanity while in school.... just sayin.
  13. Provided you don't seek employment with an institution that requires NLN/CCNE? Is there a particular reason you want to go to the mount?
  14. School accreditation and nursing accreditation are two totally seperate things. The BRN does not accredit schools, they merely approve them for eligibility of students to seek licensure.
  15. What i am saying is that NLN and CCNE accrediation are required by some employers like the VA. Its something I didn't give a lot of thought to before entering nursing school, and when the economy is tight like now, and new grads are jobless for upwards of 1 year, you probably shouldn't be entering yourself into a situation where doors are closed to you because of your education. If you do plan to go on and get your BSN immediately after your ADN, most rn-bsn school even the Internet schools are NLN/CCNE accredited. The mistake of so many is to let getting into nursing school blind you. Its better to wait it out if you have the opportunity and other schools have space. THINK THIS OUT!
