I thought I would start a thread for those who have applied, do that we can keep each other posted on what is going on with the process. Also here to promote tons of positivity for everyone.
i don't know girls - i got the same information you got regarding a tuition invoice, so i had assumed that hrsa would pay for my loans too. this is what i asked:
hi yolanda, lol. so sorry to bother you again! i've been meaning to ask you if my federal (direct) loans would be repaid also? they weren't on the invoice my school sent because the instructions sent by hrsa said not to include those.. should i have included them or how does this work?
and this was my response:
thank you for your email. you are responsible for paying your loans. hrsa responsibility is to pay the balance on the invoice after all your grants, scholarships and loans have been deducted.
i hope this information helps.

grrr. who knows! this is so frustrating, maybe i should ask someone else! :angryfire
this is what i found on the hrsa site:
if tuition and fees for the initial fall term of the 2008-2009 academic year have been paid from another source of financial aid (e.g. pell grant, state grants or other scholarships), pending notice of an nsp award, the school may return payments to the source of funding and then submit an invoice to the nsp for payment. after the initial fall term, if sources of financial aid, other than nsp, have been used to pay for tuition and fees, the school will be instructed not to submit an invoice to the nsp for these costs, but to submit documentation stating that it will not be seeking payment for the term. however, if a balance remains, then the school may submit an invoice for the balance remaining. although payments of tuition and fees are made directly to the nursing school, the student is liable for paying taxes on these amounts.
so it sounds like you could ask the financial aid office to return the loans and submit an invoice to hrsa. unfortunately i just realized that we will be charged taxes for any money paid to the school on top of the taxes charged to our stipend.
Did your school already submit an invoice? HRSA is going to pay what your school invoice says. If the school deducted the loans then I would say you don't have anything to worry about. If they did not then your loans will go to your tuition. I think maybe Yolanda isn't picking her words carefully. You are responsible for returning your loans if you no longer want them. You need to speak to the financial aid department, at least that is the information I got from my school's treasurer.
okay, well maybe I'll see if it's too late for my school to return the loans. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Also, my HRSA 'analyst' emailed me and said that our stipends would be sent out my the end of the week and should be in no later than the 7th. wooooooohoooooo!
I'll let you know how the loan-thing goes.
thanks girls.
