How do you think the New US President will affect Retrogression?

Published

It is so hard to wait. I have been watching the news but I really don't get to hear what are their plans for nurse immigrants. As an observer I think Barrack Obama will win. I just hope that something really positive pops up as the new president assumes office. Please share your views on this matter. Thanks:D

His concerns at the moment are about the American people, the people who have just elected him to office. The war in Iraq, and the economy take a little more presidence over retrogression at the moment. Even if he takes a look at retrogression, it's going to be long after the troops are pulled out and the economy is stable, which could take years.

obama will surely prioritize the ecomomy, giving jobs back to americans.

retrogrossion won't be a priority.

Hopefully this guy will be the new President in 4 more years and he will be trying to put America back together after Obama totally ruins America.

It is obvious that Obama has bigger fish to fry than retrogression but I don't think that is the question the poster was looking to get an answer for. I think the real question is whether Obama is pro nurse immigrant or not. And from what I have read and heard he is pro union and the unions are anything but pro nurse immigrant. Obama is also not in favor of Nafta and that could include a lot of change to healthcare as many Canadians are working as nurses in the US through the Nafta program, especially in border towns. It will be interesting to see what position he will take when the time comes for this discussion but from what many have seen in the past the president does not have the power to get this started. A bill must first be passed in the Senate and House before the President can sign anything into law. I think it will be a long wait for retrogression unfortunately. I understand that the US should be concerned about their citizens first but also understand that there are many who also want to realize the American dream. Really can't blame people for that. And think that there are always 2 ways at looking at anything. No right or wrong answers. I was also curious on how people think that Obama would view retrogression. Not that this is a priority for him but down the road hopefully it will be something that will be discussed and considered.

OK this thread is about How the new president will affect immigration and retrogression. Can we please keep to topic or else this thread will be moved to the Election forum or closed

Democrats tend to be more protectionistic, and Obama is worried about people here being unable to get jobs. He is also aware of the problems in American health care and the nursing shortage but I don't think he will seek to address it by importing foreign nurses as long as there are Americans who need the jobs. And if he can actually address some of the issues and conditions improve American nurses who have left could be enticed back.

I would be less hopeful under Obama.

Hopefully this guy will be the new President in 4 more years and he will be trying to put America back together after Obama totally ruins America.

America has already been ruined thanks to Bush.

Most Americans are concerned with the worsening economy :( and increase in unemployment. :uhoh21: Obama has said over and over that he believes we need to create jobs for Americans. That's his priority, and the priority of all Americans who voted for him.

For people to wonder--the day after the election--where he stands on immigration for nurses... is just plain silly! :banghead: He has many issues to deal with, and needs to focus on what is best for the USA. Putting Americans to work is a priority. Increasing imported foreign workers while many Americans are out of work is most certainly not a priority!! :nono:

Obama's aunt is living illegally in Boston, she is living on welfare in a horrible project, when asked how his aunt should be handled he stated in an interview with CBS News' Katie Couric on Sunday, Obama said: "If she is violating laws those laws have to be obeyed. We're a nation of laws. Obviously that doesn't lessen my concern for her, I haven't been able to be in touch with her. But I'm a strong believer you have to obey the law."

As far as members on this forum are concerned the issue of retrogression is closely linked to bringing in foreign nurses to US, but its also an issue that includes people legally working and living in US since years and yet are not secure about their and their family's future. The immigration issue also includes the fate of the many million illegal immigrants. Hence Immigration, in my humble opinion, is still an issue which the new President will have to tackle some time or the other.

Its true that the economic situation and war in Iraq are of more immediate concern and will be prioritized, but I am not sure that he will concentrate only on one issue at a time; that he would first solve the economic crisis then finish the war in Iraq and then look at other issues. He will probably have to juggle many issues at one time and Immigration, in my opinion, is still one of them. I dont know what stance he will take on retrogression in employment based immigration but he will have to look at it sometime or the other.

The US nursing shortage is a myth.

Many nurses who reside in the US are now having a very difficult time finding jobs. Read the forums here- there are many posts from nurses saying "I can't find a job."

We need to stop insourcing nurses, and help the nurses we have here find employment- and retain the nurses we do have through improving working conditions.

I believe the congress(senate and house) are still be the ones who should really push for these proposed changes in the visa availability, if ever they are to favor LEGAL immigrants.

The president signs bills into laws, but basically, to a major extent, the ones responsible would still be congress.

I believe the president now will have the dilemma regarding two important issues...Speeding up legal immigration and/or giving the illegal immigrants a chance...Whatever the president and/or congress decides on will have an effect/consequence which might not be instantly be clear or appear. Tough decision, but if I were to decide, I'd favor those who waited in line, who did it the right way, the first time.
