How do you think the New US President will affect Retrogression?

Published

It is so hard to wait. I have been watching the news but I really don't get to hear what are their plans for nurse immigrants. As an observer I think Barrack Obama will win. I just hope that something really positive pops up as the new president assumes office. Please share your views on this matter. Thanks:D

I believe the congress(senate and house) are still be the ones who should really push for these proposed changes in the visa availability, if ever they are to favor LEGAL immigrants.

The president signs bills into laws, but basically, to a major extent, the ones responsible would still be congress.

I believe the president now will have the dilemma regarding two important issues...Speeding up legal immigration and/or giving the illegal immigrants a chance...Whatever the president and/or congress decides on will have an effect/consequence which might not be instantly be clear or appear. Tough decision, but if I were to decide, I'd favor those who waited in line, who did it the right way, the first time.

If understand you, are you staying the illegal immigrants will get first pass at staying in the USA? I happen to agree with you. Not the right thing to do.

I saw some typographical errors in my post above, however, I can not see the "edit" button. Anyway, yes, look at this:

Barack will probably be the worst President the USA has seen since Jimmy Carter.

I think the USA will be seen having a "Weak" Leader with no leadership skills.

He will have little to no impact on Retrogression, Probably he has no clue about Retrogression.

But it seems he's all about rewarding Illegal Aliens in USA with Citizenship, Reward people for committing a Federal Crime.

These are the same people who thinks that the fundamentals of the economy are strong, that they have foreign policy experience because they can see russia from their house, who'se planning to tax healthcare insurance... you betcha!

Found the following on another fourm related to immigration. This info was released almost a year ago.

MA: Michael Arrington

BO: Sen. Barack Obama

Immigration and H1B Visas

MA: What is your position on H1B visas in general? Do you believe the number of H1B visas should be increased?

BO: Highly skilled immigrants have contributed significantly to our domestic technology industry. But we have a skills shortage, not a worker shortage. There are plenty of Americans who could be filling tech jobs given the proper training. I am committed to investing in communities and people who have not had an opportunity to work and participate in the Internet economy as anything other than consumers. Most H-1B new arrivals, for example, have earned a bachelor's degree or its equivalent abroad (42.5%). They are not all PhDs. We can and should produce more Americans with bachelor's degrees that lead to jobs in technology. A report of the National Science Foundation (NSF) reveals that blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans as a whole comprise more that 25% of the population but earn, as a whole, 16% of the bachelor degrees, 11% of the master's degrees, and 5% of the doctorate degrees in science and engineering. We can do better than that and go a long way toward meeting industry's need for skilled workers with Americans. Until we have achieved that, I will support a temporary increase in the H-1B visa program as a stopgap measure until we can reform our immigration system comprehensively. I support comprehensive immigration reform that includes improvement in our visa programs, including our legal permanent resident visa programs and temporary programs including the H-1B program, to attract some of the world's most talented people to America. We should allow immigrants who earn their degrees in the U.S. to stay, work, and become Americans over time. As part of our comprehensive reform, we should examine our ability to replace a stopgap increase in the number of H1B visas with an increase in the number of permanent visas we issue to foreign skilled workers. I will also work to ensure immigrant workers are less dependent on their employers for their right to stay in the country and would hold accountable employers who abuse the system and their workers.

Although he talks mostly about H1Bs, he also talks about reforms in the EB immig. system.

:typingThank you for all the replies. I really appreciate it. America has been the land of opportunity for many immigrants. I am thankful for countries that welcome immigrants like us. In return I know of many Filipino nurses who also contributed well in the improvement of the health care delivery system in US.

President elect Barrack Obama I think is very promising. I just hope that he remain focused in performing his duties. President Bush left a great pile of trash. He has to clean-up...American economy, being the primary source of most of the economy in the world has a humongous impact not only to other 1st world countries but also to third world countries like the Philippines. He has alot to carry on his shoulders right now. I hope and pray that God will give Him the necessary wisdom and intellect to pull this through.

:yeah:

I hope you are right about Obama, it will mean big raises for the US nurses. It will mean my retirement fund will go up and I can retire and travel when I am in my sixities. It will mean I can sell my house for a huge profit and buy a two houses. It will mean my taxes will go down and the services I get from the government will go up. My health care will be free and I won't have to pay any health insurance. I can give up my second job. We will need many many foreign nurses since we will have all this extra money to have plastic surgery.

I will be able to go to school for free. When all these promises come true the Americans will welcome all immigrants to work we will need you, Americans will be too busy traveling and spending. We will not have a care in the world. With Mr Obama I will have free health care, super pay, low taxes, no war I can wait.

I truely hope your dreams come true since my dream will come true too!

Do you think it is time for me to quit my jobs? Do you think I should start booking my vacations and put my house on the market and expect to make a huge profit !

And Obama is offering a tax break to all employers that hire an American in the next two years. His push is for Americans to be working first.

Since there have been close to a million lay-offs under dear old Bush since the beginning the year, jobs are going to be going to Americans; they need to. Unless Americans are working, then there is no need for additional nurses if one does not have health insurance.

Bush and the Republicans were left with close to a 5 trillion dollar windfall that was spent in less than two years and six years further in debt. The goal for the new president is to get the economy rolling again before anything or we are going to be in downward spiral.

And for the poster that talked about Obama not having any experience, think again. He graduated the top of his class from Harvard and has been a community activist since he finishe law school as well. His campaign ran as smooth as silk per the reporters that were impedded with his campaign; they came up with issues with the other campaigns but could not find any with his.

His wife is also the head of a hospital group in Chicago so he has first hand knowlege of what is happening in the world of health care as well.

Let's see. 10 billion US dollars for a war that nothing is happening with, and the Irag government has more than 72 billion dollars being kept in US banks. What is wrong with this picture?

Thank goodness that Obama won, we need more people like him.

With the dire economic times in America, immigration will probably not be a priority, jobs for Americans will be in the minds of those who shape the policies of the nation. That's just the way it is.

I believe the US Economy is the priority of President-elect Obama, but we are not Economists, were Nurses, Im not here to stir a debate, I just want to share you folks this message.

Here's an excerpt form http://www.immigration-law.com/

  • The country's top priority is set at controlling the forest fires in economy that spread wildly in the nation and throughout the world. However, economy is just a part of a whole system and the nation as a system can not achieve a progress unless other subsystems of the society move along with it and sustain the direction of economy. The nation needs a vision for the future of the nation in a comprehensive way and in this regard, we welcome the President-elect's on-going development of a comprehensive agenda to shake not just one sector but all the critical sectors in parallel to redirect our nation to the global leadership in every sectors in the world.
  • Short-sighted view may take the immigration issues contracting the nation's need for a full attention and focus on economic recession. However, a country's economy cannot move ahead unless other critical sectors sustain such move. Economy does not stand alone. This country is built on immigration and we are country of immigrants. Continuing flow of immigrants forms a backbone and blood of the system supporting and sustaining the system unlike other countries in the world. A country's economy cannot sustain unless a fresh new blood is supplied in all sectors including high tech industry as well as the first industry. Country's culture cannot be enriched unless new talented artists, athletes, writers contiue to flow in. The strength for this nation and its sustaining leadership have been founded on such flow of new fresh bloods from all over the world.
  • We understand that the incoming Obama administration and the new Congress will take up comprehensive immigration reform as one of the first, albeit not the top, agenda early next year. We will wait and watch how things will unfold.

Wow!!!Information overload...Thank you for all the posts and resources. I think immigrants can help the US regain its super economic power. I believe that the greatest contribution that immigrants can do is help the US economy get back on its toughest shape. Americans will definitely be the top priority ...no argument with that. Skilled-workers, Nurses, Doctors...BPO industries are only some of the labor immigrants are providing US. US will not attain its stature without immigrants. So far, based on my observation, it has work well for the US economy not until the recent mishap brought about by bad credit . Over-all US can still emerge victoriously over this matter...I am very positive on this

Compared to our country...the Philippines has long way to go. I am proud of our race but I am ashamed of our Political Instability which was brought about by greedy and corrupt politicians.

Good luck to all of us and God Bless:yeah:

Silver Surfer, yesterday it was announced that the unemployment rate is the highest since 1983. Millions of Americans don't have jobs. Obama has promised he will find they employment even if the government has to create jobs like FDR did in the 1930's.

The New Deal in the 1930's projects where supported by the government to create jobs for Americans. These jobs will not go to non Americans.

Obama has a very full plate, a government and economy that is a mess probably one of the worst in American History. His VP stated that their will probably be an attempted attack within the six months of his election. He still has to put resolution to the war in Iraq that is draining our economy. There are many Americans who have or going to loose their homes. My employers are laying people off.

On top of this like any new president there is a huge transition. He will be briefed every day about National Security and will have access to classified information that only a president has access to. He has to interview and hire thousands of people to support his presidency.

Last there is the inauguration to plan, I have heard many people are planning to attend this event. There are many parties , parades and events to plan before January 20th.

Do you see any need or time to plan an immigration policy ?\

He is my President, I hope and pray that he can deliver 1/3 of the promises he made, most politicians make many promises in the campaign that they never keep, Americans understand this.

Unfortunately, I have read and personally seen that when a Philippine nurse migrates to America a significant part of their salary is sent home ( Up tp 30%). What will help America is immigrants who spend in the USA. For example, instead of supporting the American economy, your fellow countrymen will return home to get more education. This is not supporting the American economy. When Philippine nurses go on vacation they return home. There are more than enough doctors in the US and more than enough Americans who are qualified to be nursing students.

The illegal immigrants are the ones the US economy depends on, they perform jobs that no Americans what to do. The harvest crops, to manual labor, provide childcare and other less than desirable jobs. All of this is done "under the table" meaning they do not pay taxes. When most Americans talk about immigration, they are talking about limiting this activity and in the past, these illegals will be granted permanent status over others who are trying legally to come to the USA.

So in summary, the USA does need immigrants and uses millions of illegal immigrants every day to do jobs that Americans don't want to do. Being a nurse or doctor is not part of this labor force that Americans count on immigrants to keep America strong.
