How do you think the New US President will affect Retrogression?

Published

It is so hard to wait. I have been watching the news but I really don't get to hear what are their plans for nurse immigrants. As an observer I think Barrack Obama will win. I just hope that something really positive pops up as the new president assumes office. Please share your views on this matter. Thanks:D

when a married philippine rn migrates to the usa, it is with the immediate family (spouse & children). these nurses send back very little if any of their dollars back to the philippines since they spend the money back into the system for their family and to pay taxes. its only when a relative back in the philippines gets hospitalized that money is sent back.

once these philippine rn immigrants get settled in the usa after a few years, very little if any money is diverted back to the rp, but is spent for the college education of their children.

it is the hope (very dim at that) of all philippine rns that immigration might be addressed even in the severe economic downturn now affecting the us. it has become very convenient for undocumented workers to just cross the border into the usa while the qualified philippine rns across the sea have to endure the frustration of being recycled on the retrogression treadmill year after fiscal year.

that's probably why so many are now in the usa on tourist visas and applying for adjustment of status just to get ahead of everyone else in the line, and many are succeeding in doing just that.

Illegal immigrants who get amnesty are still immigrants in the USA. This group did not go through the hard and winding process that the nurses who post here are trying to approve to come to the USA. I would be very frustrated if I was in the shoes of the nurses wanting to come to the USA. But in most Americans minds they don't discriminate between the legal or illegal workers.

Unfortunately many circumstances in life are unfair. I just don't see a magic cure that the new president can bring to give every foreign nurse a job. I think it will be a struggle for him to find every American nurse a job. I wish Mr Obama success since his success will make it great for all Americans but I don't think it will happen very quickly and certainly not quickly enough to employ every person who wants to work in the USA.

Although I don't think this is fair, once my people set foot on land they can stay in the US. If they're found on shores, they must be sent back to Cuba. I think if you're going to apply this to one group, you should apply it to all groups.

Sorry but you are still taking my post out of context.

This would be my last post regarding the issue as I do not want my posts taken out of context anymore.

That was post was in response to a specific post and that only.

Just hoping someone understands my point.

And when I say you do not understand my point it means you do not understand my point. You cannot say you understand when the original author or poster says you don't either. When you still insist that you do besides what the original author says then that just proves that you are taking it out of context alright.

As I said, I do understand your post loud and clear. I think what bothers you is that I don't agree with what you're saying. But that's ok because I don't have to agree with you and you don't have to agree with me. You made comments about illegal immigrants, I called you on it and now you have to deal. You can dish, but you can't take. End of story

LOL! :lol2: More words of wisdom from slimy law firms!

You do understand, of course, that immigration-law.com is merely the website of a law firm that specializes in immigration. Naturally they are going to talk about a "continuing flow of immigrants" being the "backbone" of our economy. That's how they make their money!

I think that with the current economic problems and rising unemployment faced by the US, they are just being cruel to voice their opinion that the US needs additional foreign workers at this time. The US needs to strengthen its economy, and the main way to do that is by focusing our attention on putting Americans back to work.

Remember that on the internet, anyone can say anything, regardless of whether it is true or not. It's just wrong to give false hope to desperate people.

Please dont be judgemental, dont generalize. I am a nurse and for sure before I post it its not a hearsay. Ive been one of the clients of this law firm, and they helped me from where I am now. (legally)..they are respectable and frankly speaking they are the most read site with 20,000,000+ visits. I am aware the US economy is melting, but it is not the end of the world.. Healthcare is still a strong field..Ok, this is what you want to hear. " The US Economy if weakening, NO WORK FOR IMMIGRANTS! PERIOD! STAY OUT!" Now, satisfied? But I tell you, my fellow countrymen from the Philippines especially nurses, who have an average age of 25 yrs old, are able to wait 2 yrs? 5yrs? 10 yrs? what the heck, Family based greencard petitions are running for 10yrs, and they can still afford to wait! The pride of the Philippines is that they have Young Professionals, by the way whats the average age of US Nurses right now? I hope those would be American Nursing Students wont have a hard time getting a student loan, with all those bad credits.

please don't get your hopes up. he has a huge mess left behind, and no experience leading anything. if he took a job as shift lead at mcdonalds, that would be his most notable leadership position.

for a guy older than 40, that is pitiful. i had more leadership experience than that at age 23.

ummm, i am just being positive. i know he has a lot of mess to clean up, thanks for that you know who president from texas. this country needs a lot of postive thinking, you see, if you work really hard, and never stop trying, eventually you will succeed in life. if you start being sour about everything that you see around you, you won't go anywhere , if you think you have answers to everybody's problem in this country? you should run for president next time. have a great day;-).

the us nursing shortage is a myth.

many nurses who reside in the us are now having a very difficult time finding jobs. read the forums here- there are many posts from nurses saying "i can't find a job."

we need to stop insourcing nurses, and help the nurses we have here find employment- and retain the nurses we do have through improving working conditions.

you know what? i am so 100% agree with what you said. it is really weird hearing things like " i can't find a job", "nobody is hiring". i think right now with our economy in a slump, some hospitals don't hire new staff. for some, they just won't hire new grads because they don't have any work experience..seriously, this happens everyday here in the united states. even here in hawaii, there were a couple of place where they had been laying off nurses...i don't think those nurses from abroad have a chance to get here ans settle ( at least for now). i know many of our fellow nurses wants to earn more $$ but i guess right now, we just have to stick with what we got and hang on.

with visas being under retrogression there is no way people can come on a tourist visa and adjust it. visas have to be current to do that. shame on them trying it as it makes it harder for the ones that really want to do it properly.

This thread is getting a bit heated and needs to stay on topic. We all have our opinions on how we hope things will move forward but we all agree that the USC must come first. However there is a immigration route and if people are prepared to wait for several years then that is up to them as long as they don't become stale in their profession I am sure they will eventually become an asset to the US or which ever country they decide to live on.

Can we try to keep to topic on how the new elected president (once inaugurated) will move on immigration

and obama is offering a tax break to all employers that hire an american in the next two years. his push is for americans to be working first.

since there have been close to a million lay-offs under dear old bush since the beginning the year, jobs are going to be going to americans; they need to. unless americans are working, then there is no need for additional nurses if one does not have health insurance.

bush and the republicans were left with close to a 5 trillion dollar windfall that was spent in less than two years and six years further in debt. the goal for the new president is to get the economy rolling again before anything or we are going to be in downward spiral.

and for the poster that talked about obama not having any experience, think again. he graduated the top of his class from harvard and has been a community activist since he finishe law school as well. his campaign ran as smooth as silk per the reporters that were impedded with his campaign; they came up with issues with the other campaigns but could not find any with his.

his wife is also the head of a hospital group in chicago so he has first hand knowlege of what is happening in the world of health care as well.

let's see. 10 billion us dollars for a war that nothing is happening with, and the irag government has more than 72 billion dollars being kept in us banks. what is wrong with this picture?

thank goodness that obama won, we need more people like him.

with all that million-billion-gazillion dollars you mentioned above suzanne, it is really hard for me to swallow...we must not forget that all of those amount came from our hard earned tax money. every single dollar of it could have been used for a better purpose, than blowing some mountains in iraq or afghanistan. heck i could use a 1 million $$ and blow it all in las vegas, or at least feed the homeless peeps in my neighborhood. well, this old regime definitely leaves a big scar on our pocket. but, we have a new president now something to be excited about, i am sure he will face so many hurdles left by the you know who. but, i wish, all of us can move along, help each other with whatever, hopefully more nurses will eventually get a job and not lose their house, and provide for their kids. after all, we live in a free country, work hard, party hard ;-)

:yeah:we're all in this together:yeah:

let us not forget, when mr. you know who from texas started his term, i am sure all of saw a lot of redflags stat. he took more vacation days than a regular john doe, and nobody said anything. gas price went up to the roof and nobody questioned it, i think. now that mr. obama wiil start his term next year, i hope every body, including the nay sayers will give him a break. he won't be in that position if he cannot do the job. and not to be out of topic, lets not forget that this country is an made of different people from different background, and we all know why illegals, legals, aliens, martians whathave yous wants a piece of america. they want to live free and make a better life. don't forget, for those who lives here in american soil, legal illegal etc. you live in one of the most powerful country in the world, each one of us contributes to the balance. it is now time for us to join mr. obama to move along to repair the damage done to our country and its people. it the time for us to show the world what it meant to be an american. or at least being part of this great country.

I can see that there are some people on this board who seem to have a true passion for nursing. They want to come to the US to work because that seems their only shot at working as a nurse. When asked, their response is that they're not able to work as a nurse in their own country because there are no jobs available. Not once did they ask how much money will they make or where is the best place to work where you can make more $$. There are those who I feel are in it for the sole purpose of making money because the first thing that they ask you is where do they pay nurses the best? I understand not all of them are like that, some of them I believe want to know how much they will make in comparision to where they're at now. But the ones who are in it solely for the money are the ones who I would question about their bedside manor. Now there are people in the US who are in nursing also for the money and I question them just the same. Who I really admire are the people who are waiting in line waiting for their chance at a visa. They have patience and patience is a virtue. I just hope that the ones who don't have any nursing experience are able to gain it while they're waiting for their chance at a green card. For the ones who have been fortunate enough to be working as a nurse already should continue working until they are chosen for a green card. Due to retrogression, it will take awhile but as I said before patience is a virtue and good things come to those that wait.
