The wonderful thing about nursing is that it is open to everyone of all ages. Please give a cheer to all the people who believe that age is not a factor in learning. And, to all the people who strive for knowledge regardless of age. How old were you when you started nursing school?

I came to this website to ask the question, Am I too old to apply for nursing school. I have been taking general and pre nursing classes since I left the Army in 2001...12 years! Everytime I get back to school again...I get pregnant! 6 times! So I take about a year off in between. This spring I start the cna course and then will apply for the nursing program starting spring 15 ( so I can finish my last class, micro). At that time I will be 35!!!! Holy smokes! Kinda bummed me out thinking about it last night. I homeschool my kids too...so the 2 year program will most likely take 4 years for me. I will be 40 by the time I am an RN. It made me feel better that I am not the only one that got a bit sidetracked. I almost thought if quitting when I thought of it last night.
I started on pre-reqs. at 39, was added to the wait list at 40. I am 44 and have been attending full time. I am Phi Theta Kappa, Honors Program and on the Deans list all the time. I was scheduled to start the actual Nursing Program at Mott Community College this January and received a letter in September that I was removed from the eligibility list!! I have been encouraged to reapply though....so I have that going for me. (Back story..missed passing Pharm by 2 points last Winter, was told by the Dept. rep. that as long as I was scheduled to retake it in the Fall it would not effect eligibility....now the Nursing Coordinator told me I was misinformed and basically called me a liar...nice huh?) Moral of the story to other nursing students....get everything in writing. I don't want to get litigious but this has put me yet another year (at least) behind. I welcome any suggestions out there.
