The wonderful thing about nursing is that it is open to everyone of all ages. Please give a cheer to all the people who believe that age is not a factor in learning. And, to all the people who strive for knowledge regardless of age. How old were you when you started nursing school?

Specializes in public health.

One of the students in my class was in his 50s when he started nursing school and he plans on getting his Doctoral degree in the future. So he probably would be in his 60s when he can practice as a DNP. :) He is one of the most hardworking persons I know.

Started college at 18. Graduated with my BSN at age 22.

Me too! Will finish at 50, just shy of 51.

I was 18, right out of high school! I hear it all the time, "You aren't old enough to be my nurse!"

I will be 25 when I start my program Spring 2014. Hopefully I will be 27 when I finish.

Specializes in Psych/OR.

I'm 21 and just got accepted to an ADN program. I turn 22 on January when it actually starts so I hope to graduate when I'm 24

Started as a MA when I was 21 finished when I was 22. I'm 31 and I'm almost finished with my first semester of LPN school. It's been very challenging to say the least, but I'm one step closer to being a nurse, which means a lot to me.

24 woot woot! After one BSc. Nursing is the career of my dreams, nothing else I'd rather do.

I was 33 when I got accepted into the program, but chose to wait a semester because of marital conflicts. By the time I started the program I was 34. I tested out of the first year of nursing due to being a military medic and choosing a career ladder option. I will be graduating in May of 2014. I already have a nurse externship position in a neuro ICU at a very prestigious hospital in my area. The military and the hospital have covered all of my expenses for school and even some for living. It has been great! Not as challenging as I thought, but I am kind of a nerd and very motivated. Being older (mature) and knowing how to manage my own stress have been the defining factors in my success in nursing school.

44...................

I may chose to work hospice also...good luck to your sister!

Specializes in OB, NICU, Nursing Education (academic).

Finished BSN at 23, MSN at 43. Now I'm working on a PhD (2nd year at it) and I'm 53...

Never too old to be a student!
