  1. Amazon!!! Buy them, so you can sell them after and make some money back. Best time to look is at the end of the semester when everyone is selling theirs :)
  2. +When I think of Addison's, I think of JFK. He had Addison's and was thin/tan. Picture him taking pills (lifetime steroid replacement) +Cushings= I like how the PP said think of a cushion. Also, what happens when people take steroids? They gain weight, experience "roid rage" *When I hear SIADH I think of sponge bob. Sponges hold onto fluid. *Diabetes insipidus= Mr. Sip and **** ~Hyperthyroid= think of someone who is "hyper" fast moving, thin, energy ~Hypothyroid=slow, fatigued, etc It really helps to study them in pairs, that way you can just look at them as opposites. Hope this helps a little :)
  3. Well, my iphone is loud enough to wake me up. But I usually set 3-4 alarms at various times before I actually need to be awake, that way if I sleep through one, hopefully the next would wake me. Say you need to be out of bed no later than 6am, then set one for 5:30,5:40, 5:50, etc. You can set the alarm to go off every Monday, or whatever day. If you are still worried, I suggest investing in a bedside old school alarm clock :)
  4. I kinda mixed in things from both NVD and C/S, but I hope that helps a little.
  5. NICU attends all c/s in my hospital. Our NICU usually wants to know gestational age, how long moms been ruptured, blood type, GBS status (if positive, how many doses of abx did she receive), any abnormal prenatal labs (HIV/hep/drugs), last dose of pain med, significant mom hx like PP said that might affect baby like gest. diabetes, etc.
  6. First of all, CONGRATS!!!! I was also accepted into a 4 year BSN program at a state university straight out of high school. I took all of my "pre-reqs" at the same time as my nursing classes, and I didn't have to take an entrance exam. I was taking A&P along with foundations, so that might be how your school is! When I started, about half of my class was students straight out of high school and half were mid-20s and up. The professors don't care how old you are as long as you are responsible and respectful. All students are treated the same. As far as living on campus, it depends how far from home you are. If you are far, then I would suggest living on campus for at least your first year. You will meet a lot of people & will learn where good places are to live and who you want to live with! If you don't have a roommate, they should be able to pair you up with someone also in the nursing program. As far as supplies, I would bring a notebook, syllabus, and pen to class. There usually is no need to lug all of your heavy textbooks around to class. You can always ask the first day of class if bringing your book is recommended. The professors usually will send you an email or post to blackboard (if your school uses that) right before classes start to let you know if they want you to bring something. The nursing school will notify you of other supplies you will need. We were required to buy scrubs(in our school colors), a stethoscope, pen light, & dressing scissors. Most of this will be covered in either orientation or future mail/email. So don't sweat it. You will be hearing more soon!! Good Luck!
  7. Thank you guys!! I am already signed up for Kaplan. I'm just lacking the motivation to review content so I think I'm going to try hurst. The consensus seems like the videos are helpful!
  8. If you did the online Hurst review, how long did it take you to get through all of the videos? I'm thinking of doing it, but have not been able to find any information on how long the videos are to see if I will have time to get through them.
  9. I was 18, right out of high school! I hear it all the time, "You aren't old enough to be my nurse!"
  10. I have the Littman II. However, I still didn't like the ear piece that it had. I ordered the small littman ear piece replacements (my litmann came with the large size), and it was exactly what I needed. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000LJWI5A/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1384990165&sr=8-1&pi=SL500
  11. I was about to post about this too!! Pretty sure it's an urban legend bcuz I have heard it in many different places!
  12. LOVE LOVE LOVE AMAZON!!! I have bought ALL of my books from them. Sign up for Amazon Student (with your .edu email) and you will get free 2 day shipping on all Prime eligible items! I often buy used books sold by Amazon themselves. (Mostly because it's free shipping) I have however bought from other merchants, and NEVER have had a problem. I've been burned by eBay before, but once I fell in love with Amazon, I will never go anywhere else!!
