  1. Graduated May 2015 Passed NCLEX May 2015 Job offer April 2015 I was one of the lucky ones to get a job offer before I finished school. The offer was from the unit I was doing my last clinical rotation at. I wasn't super excited about it, but took it anyway. Then was offered a job way closer to home a few weeks before I was to start. I know most of the people in my class had job offers before we graduated. I think it is a Midwest thing! There were only a few who had a hard time getting a job, but from what I heard they do now. Of course our pay scale is pretty much at the bottom, meaning in our rural Midwest area, most of use make less than $22/hr.
  2. Ugh so instead of losing weight in nursing school I gained weight. Now I need a 3X tall and I have no clue where to look. I did read a post from like 2010 of someone who carries their weight in their thighs and this is my problem too. If my thighs were in portion to my waist I would be fine with an XLT, but noooo. Anyways, does anyone know where I can get a 3XT or have any ideas? I don't want to spend a ton of money on them either! (I am hoping to get back to my pre-nursing weight before too long) Thank you for your help!
  3. If you took the ATI predictor do you get all the content you had during school? when I took my predictor I got a 99% probability and only used ATI material. I took my NCLEX yesterday and passed. I know many of my classmates who were in the 90's for pass rates and they have all passed too with nothing but ATI. However if you feel you need more the posters before have great ideas!
  4. Which is why I didn't do it! I wasn't going to take the chance, especially when I live in a quick results state. Got my results from my BON in less than 24 hours! Passed btw, totally stoked. It was hard but I can understand why those in non quick result states will do it! Good luck all!
  5. Did you use any other resources? Our school does ATI (we have the full game with a 3 day in person review also!) and I don't know if I should be studying something else or not. I have done a few on the *free* version and literally just paid for the full version. I really like the format and the rationale ALWAYS helps me! I will be done in May so for me this is perfect to do whenever I have "down" time. which is when my kids are in bed!
  6. Interesting thread! I have a BS in Biology and had worked for a few years when I decided I hated bench work and i really was passionate about working with people. So I started looking into nursing programs. I lived in California at the time. I had called the local Universities with Nursing programs and every single one told me that because I have a BS already, I CANNOT be in their traditional program. So, I started looking into to Accelerated programs, but they were upwards of $45K!!! Then I looked into ADN programs and put myself on the waitlist. Fast forward 4 years (family stuff happened) and I moved to Minnesota. After what happened in CA, I didn't even bother looking at 4 year Universities, I went straight to Community Colleges. I got into an LPN program because the local CC wanted me to be a CNA for 6+ months and they had a year waiting list, the LPN did not. Figured I could work in a clinic while working my way up. Then I saw a commercial for one of the area's 4 yr colleges stating they have an accelerated program. I called them up, met with the Director and bam, I got in. Until we had a student fail out of our accelerated program, I had no clue you could get a 2nd Bachelors from a University! HOWEVER, that being said, I am SOOOO grateful I got into my program. It has been intense, but the LPN program I was going to go into graduates the same time I do! It has been intense and I am almost done!! I think I personally would have been bored out of my mind and not done as well in a traditional program! Good luck!
  7. In my postpartum I was super nervous! My mom was an RN herself, so I felt that I needed to be on the ball and do it all right. She was so nice and great! She let me do whatever on her and the baby! On my peds rotation all my parents were great. We did have one set of parents in the PICU that did not want too many students around. They were very attentive. I just made sure that I asked if it was ok if I did everything. That went along way. Getting to know parents is HUGE and can really help if you notice they have an anxiety!
  8. friendlyelse can you msg me the site?
  9. Thanks! I have been debating about the NCLEX Mastery one because I did not want to pay the money and it not be worth it! I have 8 weeks left of my program and I am so done with the school part! So done!!! but I need something to keep my mind active with what I have learned and help find areas I need help in! Oh and I will be taking the NCLEX RN
  10. I agree with this. I am in an accelerated program (8 weeks left!!!) and my life saver has been a detailed calendar that I can color code assignments, exams, clinical basically anything that is due or takes up my time. Then I plan out studying and my other obligations around those! Good Luck!
  11. Has anyone found any good apps (either android or iPhone, prefer iPhone) for studying or reviewing material. I am looking for something that I can lay in bed before bed and go through for like 20 minutes to review and/or answer questions. Thank you for your help!!
  12. I am in a similar predicament. However, I got a part-time job (3 months left of school) at one of the smaller hospitals and i figured I want to work there. Why? because I will get experience in different areas. Our hospital is so small you train in the ED, OB/Postpartum and Med-Surg. So that makes me happy! Plus I know the community and its resources.
  13. Words of advice: do not freak out over the small stuff, figure out your way to stay organized and stick to it. Do not change your study habits that work for you. I changed mine because,I wasn't putting as much time,in. as others and I actually did worse on my tests. If you find yourself struggling seek help. Do not wait until the end of classes. Seek clarification and DO NOT fall into the professor hating game your classmates will instigate. I am 11 months into my 15 month program. One semester to go and I will be done!! Also do not, compare yourself and your situation to others. I did this and it only instigated anger in me. I dropped that and stopped worrying about others. You can do it! It flies by and you will be done before you know it!!
  14. There is a great YouTube video that shows you how to set up Word on A Mac for APA. Not sure why you are having probs. I have a MacBook and Microsoft office and have had no problems.
  15. I am in the middle (time wise) of my ABSN program. I am a single mom of a 4 and 2 yr old. I commute an hour to school. I did it, I made the Dean's List both Spring and Summer semester. So, you can do it, especially if you have the support of your family. I think the younger our kids are the easier this is. I moved in with my parents, who support me (not fully financially) they gave me a place to stay for free (minus some physical labor with projects). My mom helps me with the kids and having both my parents around when I am not helps my kids I think. I feel extremely fortunate. My kids go to daycare a few times a week and are basically gone on the days I have class and will be gone. It works well. I feel odd most of the time because for me, i haven't spent nearly as much time studying as other classmates. I still had time for my kids, i study when they are napping or when they are in bed. Around test time, I do admit that I let them watch more TV than necessary! All in all I feel my kids haven't "missed me" or needed me since I have my parents to help. With your husband there you will be just fine! 18 months will fly by and you will figure out your schedule. I agree with getting it out of the way. I eventually want to be a NP and will most likely get a DNP, but if I started at the bottom, I would be working full-time, going to school and trying to raise older kids. I also did the math, it would have been way more expensive that way for me. (Even though some companies pay some for college) My biggest advice is figure out what works for you and stick to it. If you feel you aren't putting in the same amount of time as others, but pull the grades great, don't change anything. If you need more time, figure it out! I would also get up at 4:30 am to study before class. Good luck and you will do fine as long as you try not to stress over the little things!
