How did you get an A in anatomy?

Published

So this summer I am taking Anatomy (6 weeks) at my CC. In Fall 2014 I took A&P I at a CSU and got a low C. Thankfully, my CC has two separate classes for anatomy and physiology. I'm going to be taking anatomy over the summer and then saving physiology for this fall.

Has anyone taken anatomy over the summer? This is just anatomy, not physiology! Any tips?? I have my old A&P book and a whole bunch of pictures and notes. I'm just a little afraid since this is only a 6 week course. I won't be working, and this is the only class I'm taking so I have all the time in the world to study.

How did you get an A?? Even if it was for fall! What kind of study strategies did you use?? Any help is appreciated!

I read ahead of the professor, if possible. That way, if I really couldn't understand something, I could anticipate it and ask more detailed questions in class. I took pictures of a lot of the models in preparation for the lab practicals.

I took A&P 1 over a summer and A&P 2 over the spring. Got A's because i studied a little bit of the information daily, spent a lot of time reviewing lab material. It's really not difficult at all, just repetition

I agree with the previous posters. Read ahead. Do little things to keep it fresh like reviewing a body part in the mirror every time you go in the bathroom - things like that. Make it your life lo

Super nervous rushing my pre requisites to hopefully enter a program in 2017. Taking AP1 and Chem 1 Monday and Wednesday 6am to 12pm with work 32 a week. Hoping to get a B+ or higher is my goal. Super nervous.

Anatomy is just memorization. Use flash cards, do labeling quizzes online, use pictures with labels, remove the labels and then label them yourself to test yourself.

I've only taken Ap I lecture and lab so far. I received an A in lab and a B in lecture. I'm visual, auditory and then kinetic sp learner. I would draw, color and highlight my structures on colored papers.

If you are artsy, it's actually pretty fun and therapeutic after a long day.

Buy the anatomy and physiology coloring book.

Never skip classes and do not let yourself fall behind, even a little bit. Just power through it.

I found using flashcards helped a lot (the act of creating them helped to solidify the material in my mind). I would also draw pictures of EVERYTHING -- just grab some blank paper and coloured pencils and recreate diagrams. I found this better than the anatomy colouring books because you're actually creating the image and labelling and such. It might take longer but I think it helps stick in your memory better than passively colouring. Also, use the course outline/syllabus as a guideline and work from there. Break your study sessions into manageable chunks of material (don't try doing too much at one sitting, you'll only stress yourself out and feel overwhelmed). I used to also try and locate the bones/muscles/organs/etc on myself (or my poor boyfriend!) and say the names of each thing out loud (again, another way for it to stick in your head). If you're feeling extra creative, use an eyeliner pencil to write the names on the part on your body -- you can wash it off later.

Good luck!

Wow! That's a lot to handle. I wish you the best of luck! You can do it :)

I read ahead as much as possible. Made sure that I understood everything before moving on. I bought an anatomy program for my computer that had a bunch of help videos. I watched YouTube videos. Studying in advanced was something I absolutely needed to do in order to get my grades. I would double check with the professor to ensure I was getting all the aspects needed for the exams, and understanding what she wanted us to.

Hi I'm planning on taking chem and AP1 at the same time this upcoming fall semester and rlly hope to get A's in both. Did anyone work while taking their science courses? Any phone apps that were useful for studying? Thanks in advance!
