How did you get an A in anatomy?

Published

So this summer I am taking Anatomy (6 weeks) at my CC. In Fall 2014 I took A&P I at a CSU and got a low C. Thankfully, my CC has two separate classes for anatomy and physiology. I'm going to be taking anatomy over the summer and then saving physiology for this fall.

Has anyone taken anatomy over the summer? This is just anatomy, not physiology! Any tips?? I have my old A&P book and a whole bunch of pictures and notes. I'm just a little afraid since this is only a 6 week course. I won't be working, and this is the only class I'm taking so I have all the time in the world to study.

How did you get an A?? Even if it was for fall! What kind of study strategies did you use?? Any help is appreciated!

Use the school science center and tutors. I started off shaky and got a 71 on my 1st lecture. Once I started using the science center and tutor my grades went up from there to high B and A's. Get in there, meet some people and form a study group! Good luck!

I worked full-time, however only took AP1 and that took all my time. I am a mother of two and wife so my situation is prob different from yours. If you don't have other responsibilities you can totally do it. Download the Pearson Module app on your phone, that will help you a ton!

I didn't take anatomy during a summer session but a regular full semester. Don't skimp out on lab class time, I believe that helped me get comfortable with the models and whatnot. Definitely read in advance and a little bit faster than the scheduled reading if you can. and if you're stuck on something search it up, go on youtube there are some great online resources for anatomy.

I worked full time during my class last semester and received an A. I studied all the time. During down time at work I always had my book out. I made flash cards and also used online flash cards which were extremely helpful! I also had a great teacher.

I attempted to take A&P I in 2005 when my twins were just 2 years old and working 30 hours a week, needless to say at that point I didn't make it through. I'm scheduled to take A&P I and General Chem in the Fall. I debated taking A&P during the summer but my advisor suggested against it. So I'm taking Math for Allied Health for the summer and then my sciences in the fall.

Good luck!

Great choice taking anatomy by itself! Too many people underestimate how much time anatomy takes and I watched people in my class drop like flies throughout the semester. As with any class, make sure you do not skip any lectures and whatever you do, do not fall behind! My professor posted recordings of her lectures, so I listened to them whenever I could (sitting in traffic, while I was doing chores, etc). Also, repetition is the name of the game in this class - I reviewed the material every day (not necessarily in its entirety , something is better than nothing!).

Always read the chapter before lecture and the labs before the lab. Study every single night and even on the weekends. Be sure to learn how the professor lectures and tests. I found watching lectures on youtube to be very helpful as well as some websites that allow for you to quiz yourself. It's not an easy A but it is very doable. Use what you learn in every day life. My current co-workers may have found it annoying when I would point to their muscles and name them or when I would give them random facts about A&P but it sure was helpful to me. Good luck!

My study strategies always depend on the instructor and how they approach both teaching and testing, I adjust accordingly. With Anatomy, I never read my textbook once. I only studied the powerpoints for Lecture. For lab we did have a lab manual that was helpful but I utilized the study/tutoring center. I would go in and review slides of tissue types, cells, and whatever else I could. I would also study the bones and muscles in there before an exam. You can google images of whatever you are studying and print those out and test yourself by labeling the different bones, nerves, muscles, etc... NEVER, EVER miss a class, it's like missing a week of a normal semester. Your life will be kinda chaotic but you can push through, the time flies by!

Edited to add...use your own body while memorizing things, if you get stuck on the test you can use your own body to jog your memory!

I am being very ambitious as well. Taking Math, A & P, Microbio

Next semester is A & P 2 p, Chem, Psch 2237 and fitting the CNA program in between summer and fall semesters

The good thing about taking an accelerated summer course is that you're constantly in a mindframe of studying. Like others said, read as far ahead as you can before getting confused - that way, when you walk into lecture, you're just cementing what you've already absorbed at home.

Review, review, review. Anatomy is straight up memorization. Make flash cards and take them everywhere with you.

#truth (are the use of hashtags still a thing?) I studied so much, I would have dreams about subjects covered in anatomy.

Memorization is key - though if you can conceptualize the material; it will help immensely.
