How bad will it get in the fall/Winter time?

Nurses COVID

And is there anything we can do to prepare ourselves for what is to come??

Best case scenario, there will be a vaccine, however I highly doubt it we will have anything in the next few months.

Is there anything health care facilities can do to prepare? Extra ICU beds/Covid units? Stock up on PPE?

What about non work, stock up on food/water/necessities, and be ready to hunker down?

This doesn't look good to me at all. I am in FL and despite the warm weather the virus is spreading like wildfire. Our hospitals are overwhelmed at the moment. We have Covid units in SNF facilities. I can only imagine when the cold weather hits , and everyone will be inside most of the time, how bad it will get.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you so much for your reply ❤️

If any of you have never seen what covid 19 does to someone you are lucky. The suffering is horrible, and you as a nurse feel hopeless. There is a Tx* protocol in place , but of course it doesn't work, especially when trying to treat those with preexisting conditions and immunocompromised.

Hospitals near me are almost at full capacity in CCU/ICU units. They send the patients back to our SNF Covid unit.

I just pray that our President reconsiders reopening the schools, because this will make things 1000 x worse. ?

Please take care of yourself everyone. I know our PPE is not Coronavirus proof , I know we can still catch it and the more we are exposed to large quantities of it and b come infected the disease will be much worse if not deadly.

I still have to keep going though, we all do. There is no going back, Trump made sure of that. ..

Praying for us all and all our patients ? and our enemies too. May us all stay safe . x ❤️

My uncle spent a week in the hospital with COVID19 complications. He went home and took over a month to test negative. Still not sure if any long lasting effects post infection. He became ill about a week after transporting one of the deceased for a funeral home. He had to open the bag to tag the victim with their tag. Otherwise he had no known contact with someone with COVID19 and there weren’t many know cases where he was at the time. So much is still unknown about this crazy superbug. Stay safe.

I am also cautiously optimistic that early next year we can start offering vaccination to the front line and at risk population. That optimism doesn't extend to the discomfort I believe we are about to experience in the coming months.

There probably won't be a vaccine for one to two more years. I am in the process of joining Moderna's phase 3 trial and they have told me that it will last over the next two years. So, I wouldn't hold your breath for a vaccine. They are just now starting phase 3, which sounds promising b/c they've already done phases 1 & 2, but phase 3 is the meat and potatoes and lasts the longest. If trial results are positive, they will submit the NDA (new drug application) and will likely request a PRV (priority review voucher) and will likely get it b/c the Trump train is backing this company and also b/c a priority review is completely applicable to this situation. The FDA review for NDA takes a long time even with a PRV. As much as some of us might want a vaccine quickly, it's just not possible to start injecting people with something that has promising results when we don't know the side effects/actual efficacy of the drug.

Haven't read through the thread yet but I think it will be horrible because of flu season, especially for asthmatics and people with bronchitis or COPD.

And something isn't right at Moderna

Shares of Moderna — which has never brought a product to market over its 10-year existence — have soared as much as 380% since the start of the year as news emerged of its promising potential for producing a coronavirus vaccine. The stock price was less than $20 in early January and around $95 on Friday, after shares spiked 15% in mere hours when analysts at Goldman Sachs predicted an approved Moderna vaccine by the end of the year.

Why are the top executives selling stock after the announcement?

Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel more than tripled the number of his company shares to be sold through an executive stock plan that was changed just days after the biotech in May announced positive early results for its coronavirus vaccine. Moderna's shares spiked on the May news, rising 30% in just one day, and have been trading in a historically high price range ever since.

It wasn't limited to him.

That's really sad to hear. I will start my new grad residency this fall too and was hoping COVID will be better..

Who knows?

Some scientists were theorizing that the Coronavirus situation would get better in the Summer (meaning now) while others said otherwise.

The Wall Street Journal had an article about it today:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/scientists-hoped-Summer-temperatures-would-tamp-down-covid-19-cases-what-happened-11594632601

No doubt, there'll be public health "experts" who will talk out of both sides of their mouths... "It may get FAR worse in the Winter!"... but will conveniently be unavailable for comment if it isn't there in the Winter. Or they will just say "Oh but the science has changed!"

It's like when the meteorologist says there's a "30% chance of rain"... a good way to hedge your bets for plausible deniability either way ?

Well here's a hint: SCIENTISTS weren't theorizing that it would get better in the Summer, because SCIENTISTS were already comparing this virus between Summer and Winter during the Winter. Accurately... Since, you know, it was Summer for half the planet at the time.

We know how bad it's going to get. It's going to be catastrophic and given the past several months that is no small statement. We're looking at over a quarter million deaths by November now, for the love of Christ. I guess 20,000+ new cases a day will do that.

And the lesson for the mask rejecting re-opening mafia is that science/viruses don't care what your politics are. Changes not one thing.

should you look into the world of clinical trials, what they've got is a vaccine that produces an immune response. The next phase (3) is what determines if that response is sufficient to make enough antibodies and prevent infection in humans. And that is a heck of a ways from a given right now.,

Wear a mask and distance already.

I scared ? I don't know what to do. I had a panic attack last night at home called 911 I couldn't breathe. My BP was +170 systolic.

I don't know what is coming ahead but I already feel burnt out and overwhelmed.

For whatever reason you are living in a state of near-panic and/or experiencing actual panic attacks, you deserve to seek assistance from a healthcare provider so that you can receive an appropriate assessment and have help coming up with a plan.
