Getting Flack For Not Getting Covid Vaccine

I am trying to feel out if anyone else has declined the Covid vaccine and feeling backlash or tension with other co-workers? I have never heard so much discussion regarding nurse receiving or declining a vaccine in the 12 years I've been a nurse. Not sure why it should even matter but, I am getting a lot of pressure about it. I do not see why I am "crazy " if I made the decision against receiving the vaccine. I also do not understand co-workers pushing the vaccine on me and others, or insisting we are out of our minds.  This is coming from management level as well as staff nurses. I am just appalled at the treatment and many of us who have declined the vaccine have kept to ourselves. For me, personally, I made the choice not to get it and I was done at that. It's been a month into our hospital vaccines and people will not just shut up about it.

Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?

How are you handing this?

Please mind the poor spelling and grammar ?

I have to agree with pmabraham, while specifying which part, the context that he was responding to in saying it was Fauci that lacked integrity, was whether you considered QAnon or Fauci to be more reliable.  Obviously it's a bit absurd to suggest QAnon is the more reliable of the two.

But yes, Fauci was echoing an often repeated claim by supposed infectious disease experts at the time, which was that Covid probably spread mainly through surface vectors, and that droplet or airborne transmission was unlikely.  His later claim that he was just saying it was more important to save masks for healthcare workers pretty clearly wasn't what he was saying.

I had a 'discussion' with a infectious disease doctor in the middle of an ICU, the kind of discussion where people gather around but at a distance that expects things could get physical.  His claim was that nurses didn't need to wear N95s or PAPRs because Covid 'doesn't make small droplets', which isn't how the pathophysiology of droplets work, the virus doesn't determine the size of droplet that coughing, sneezing, or talking produces.

This was the most commonly published view on respiratory transmission of covid until a group of more than 600 epidimiologists and infectious disease experts finally came out with a joint statement that the people making these claims were idiots (I'm paraphrasing).

I distinctly remember that people in my area sought out and bought any sort of mask they could find before masks were advised.

I wouldn't think that a bad thing on their part; not like it's a character flaw or something. It wasn't the far-right conspiracy theorists who did that, it was regular people wanting to take care of their health who don't live under a rock and could see what was reportedly happening elsewhere. The problem with telling people that masks aren't going to help anything is that it is completely non-sensical, so now on top of the original situation there's a secondary problem of basic distrust and even bona fide confusion.

Clinics and hospitals had to lock up the masks they normally provided in waiting rooms because people were taking mass quantities, rather than a single one that they needed for that visit.

I heard that. Never saw it. I heard that some people had directly witnessed this and I don't doubt that it happened.  In the end it worked out well for them to be "forced" to lock up every mask on account of all these mask bandits because they had decided they'd like to lock them up anyway and keep them away from everyone including staff.

A cloth mask mandate for my office came out on a Friday, and I stood in line for an hour at the fabric store that afternoon to purchase elastic.

I mean, that's what happens when a lot of people need something at the same time...(?)  School shopping comes to mind....and school shopping doesn't affect everyone.

There was of course, none to be had and they had been out for 2 weeks. elastic was as hard to come by as TP, in my area.

TP was hard to come by in my area and the only place I have ever seen an overloaded cart is in media reports. The supply chains have something to do with all of this too, not just stupid, greedy people. I know you aren't calling people stupid/greedy; but that was the general tenor of things about that time.

I reject narratives where some self-important person or entity has to let us know the nature of a situation (according to their own idea about the best way to portray it) and tell us what can or should or must do about it because regular people are just too [whatever...stupid/dumb/greedy/bad] to do anything right.

Nope.

That approach to society is not helping us.

I wish with all my heart we could have honest discourse and debate without resorting to accusations of bullying by those who disagree. This adds zero to a lively, robust discussion of a critial topic like this.

People don't understand bullying based on what I see here.

I wish I understood what's this obsession with bullying? Why can't another person express themselves as they choose without someone selectively disregarding the context and concentrating on tone?

This is the reason why we have this divide in the country! A republican says something so we immediately decide it's nonsense instead of listening to what's been said instead of the fact that it's a republican.

I like blunt people because they are generally honest and there's less manipulation. I like Trump because of his bluntness but I understand that he's a sociopath and narcissist so everything he says is compromised. But, if you dismiss a McConnell or Cotton because of their politics, then you will miss exactly how you are going to be cheated down the road.

Look at how many people dismiss Dr Fauci because he's a liberal and how many have paid with their lives and loved ones lives because of that mistake! Stop focusing on tone and more on the content of what's being said.

Donald And Melania Trump Quietly Received COVID-19 Vaccine In January!

I'm sorry, what are they saying to their supporters?

Does the statement 'I like the uneducated people' mean something? Who said something like that?

Will Fox or the right wing media report this?

Trump encouraged vaccination in his CPAC appearance yesterday.

I really like how she thinks as well as her approach to educating people.

He quietly did but, after what period of time did he do this and what does it say that instead of telling everyone in January when he got it, he kept silent?

It was a statement made so that he could say that he encouraged vaccination.  One remark in 90 minutes of grievance and lies.

Well, he was certainly a bonus but I do believe her approach is brilliant, thoughtful, compassionate and, I don’t doubt, successful.
