Nurses General Nursing

Published

Does anyone else pick up on how there is a core set of topics that get recycled, e.g. "My GPA is 0.00001, can I handle nursing school?"

What subjects drive you to distraction after seeing them again and again?

(Forgive me if this post is redux- I honestly don't remember seeing it before...;))

when the trolls resent being called trolls

When trolls respond to 'negative' posts by mentioning that all this criticism is causing their anxiety disorder to have a major flare up, and they might quit nursing altogether now!

Those tired, old sob stories about weather and not making it to work. When a major snow storm is expected in 3 days or a week and they still have that excuse, not ONCE considering preparing and getting there, and then having the nerve to whine and moan about not getting paid PTO for not showing up. Never once considering they inconvenienced others. Never mind they live in Buffalo, NY or some other snow belt region, where snow storms are the norm, and having a 24/7 job like nursing----somehow they still don't bother planning ahead.

"I hope you're never MY nurse!"

This thread feels surprisingly good, even just reading it! Let's hear it for a healthy vent:yeah:

I'm 56 and have always had a 9-5 Monday-Friday job completely unrelated to health care or science. I know now that I was always meant to be a nurse. An NP at that! I know I'll be successful as a nurse, because...well, who wouldn't want to admit me to their program next week without pre-reqs? And no, I don't need to shadow a nurse first to see what the job is all about- after all, I've been a patient!

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

The threads that are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me are the NETY ones, the "nursing is my dreaaaaaaaaam" (but I have a GPA of 2.0 or I failed my CNA exam) and especially the unending war on overweight/obese nurses.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

"I overheard a conversation where people said that they wouldn't take advice/accept care from/want to work with a fat nurse. Is this a thing?"

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth I was a manager at a medical answering service. When the hurricanes came I would move into the office and sleep under my desk (once for three days) because we just knew no one was going to show up before the storm hit so we'd have coverage.

On the plus.. that money? Nice.

The ones that really get me are where brand-spanking-new nurses want help finding a poop-free nursing job. At what point did you realize you were studying to become a nurse...or did you not?:roflmao:

Should i go to nursing school if i dont like cleaning up poop?
