Does anyone else pick up on how there is a core set of topics that get recycled, e.g. "My GPA is 0.00001, can I handle nursing school?"

What subjects drive you to distraction after seeing them again and again?

(Forgive me if this post is redux- I honestly don't remember seeing it before...;))

Foreign educated nurses who want to know which state has the easiest NCLEX exam and won't check education or require English competency exams and how they plan to transfer the license to their dream state once they pass the easy states NCKEX

Fill in the blank- attended nursing school while (gasp) in a relationship, gotten into a program with a C in chemistry, found a job ater failing NCLEX 12 times.......I could go on and on, Celine Dion-like. But I won't.

The ones that really frost my cookies are when they ask a question and you craft a very well-thought out response and all you get is ...crickets. Usually it's because they don't like the answers they are getting. But come on, at least give us an epic internet flounce so the work we put in was worth it.

The only thing I would add is that I had an OB/Gyn tell me one time that she would like to have men do preceptorships with her but "I see a lot of women you know and I don't think they would be comfortable with a man in the exam room."

I've noticed the repetitive topic threads.

To be honest, I didn't take it as the TC should have searched older threads. Lets face it, we're all chronically unique. We think our experiences with the same thing (NCLEX anxiety, issue with an instructor/manager/co-worker, personal past history, future plans) are different than everyone else's. So even if there are threads on the topic already, our viewpoint and experience with it is different somehow, in our minds. So, we create a new thread about the topic because..........."We golly gee, it's me, the answers will be completely different."

I do believe in "Don't take your experience to be everyone else's reality" so, I can let repeating threads slide by. While some take it to an extreme, we are unique.

The bigger issue is: Many topics repeat because nursing has not matured much in the past few generations. Oh, sure, technology has improved and we wear different uniforms but...............

Most of the stuff we say nursing needs to change or "do something about", has been there for entire generations before us. Yet we are still complaining about it. This tells me we did not accomplish our goal of addressing the issues.

In short, the topics are stagnant because nursing's growth as a profession is stagnant.

Perfect example would be the "Should a BSN be the minimum requirement for bedside care?" topic. Redundant to say the least. But why is is still coming up after so many years? Well, it's simple really: We've not achieved the status of being a profession in the eyes of the public still, we've not created a body of theory that is universal for nursing (at least not enough to justify a Bachelor's degree anyway) and we hold almost ZERO autonomy regarding policing ourselves.

We'll stop talking about whether it should be required or not when we seize our own profession back and make the decision ourselves. Until then, we'll just continue to bicker about it on chat forums and complain about how often the topic comes up.

Every nurse younger and/or less experienced than me so spoiled, incompetent, and lazy! I started school when Florence was a new grad! I worked 90 hours a week, cared for 50 total-care patients, cleaned, and prepared all of the food (including hunting and field-dressing live game). I haven't taken a vacation, a sick day, or a bathroom break since 1960. I know everything there is to know about nursing.

Why do people look down on my specialty? My specialty is the heart of nursing! Any nurse who does not love my specialty should turn in their license!

Random immigration questions. I have no idea what HAAD is, what kind of documentation a Filipino nurse needs to work in the UAE, or how a Paraguayan nurse can work in the Canadian Arctic.

Well, I had to come in at 4 am to haul coal for the furnace down in the basement, mop the hallways, and make and serve breakfast for 120 patients all while wearing a long-sleeved dress with white cuffs and my starched little cap, then bathe, dress and medicate 10-12 patients. Last bathroom break was Friday, March 18, 1982. Ah such sweet memories you evoke, Not A Hat Person! We won't talk about the time I took a five minute break and discovered later I had taken a few swigs of somebody else's coffee!

My favorite shill/stupido line is" I don't (know) what the fuss is about. I've read some bad reviews about ITT tech and it's a little expensive but I'm a dummy and am gonna take a chance on losing everything by going there anyway despite the bad reviews and all the lawsuits."
