Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Ok, no one has started this yet, so I guess I will. I start A&P I on January 18th, lab and lecture.

Here are a few good websites I have found...some are basic, some may be more indepth than your instructor asks for.....BUT it gives you a little more to look over before class starts next month! :) ....Never forget the website for your actual book too!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU

Your welcome. I got my books today, we are using Mosby. Anyway, I have sticker shock and dont know what to think. A&P1 textbook and lab manual was $185 and my Microbiology books were $183 sold in a package with our schools privately owned lab manual in it. Grand total of $385 bucks. I almost fell over, can you imagine what I am going to do when I finally start taking nursing classes and have to buy those books. I heard they can run over $200 bucks a book or more. I am almost finished getting ready for school. I have the netter's flash cards and atlas, all I have left to get is the coloring books and since we are using the Mosby text, I figured I would get the Mosby coloring books as well. I am also looking at a digital voice recorder. Anyone have any suggestions or warnings about these. I am at a loss as to which one to buy.

I just have a mini-cassette recorder...seemed to do fine before. lol

I know as of right now, before the prices go up even more, the nursing books I will are about $500 total. However, the books are bought in advance, and we will use them throughout the two years.

ikwym. my a&p + food/nutrition books totalled $300. Luckily I got the food/nutrition stuff used at a really good price from someone who'd just taken the class.

No help on the mini-voice recorder. I use a pocket pc w/ fold out keyboard for notes.

I'm looking into getting a PDA, but not sure which one. Even still, I want to have my lectures recorded. That way, I can go back and listen to the lecture again, just in case I miss something.

I read a little bit of my marieb book last night, did some of the study guide on regular paper so I can do it again when class starts, and practiced using "Mr. Flynn's" Quizzer program. I HAVE to make an A!!!!

Did anyone else go to the link that Nurse2be2007 posted, and request the Quizzer? BTW, http://groups.msn.com/AnatomyPhysiologyTests/_whatsnew.msnw is the website link that was posted by Nurse2be2007.

l had mine today for both A&P1 and Lab. I came out of the lecture all excited. The instructor makes it really easy to follow his lecture with the lecture handouts he gives. They have blank spots to fill in. He has also promised to say things like, "this will make a good exam question" to give us hints. The syllabus says that the exams (5 plus the final!) are based on the lecture and textbook, but he says, it's basically only from the lecture. The one thing I'm worried about is that looking back at the textbook, he's basically lecturing from the book. So what if I don't understand what's in the book? Will he be able to explain it well enough in the lecture?

As for the lab, I'm now confused. Half the lab stuff is online, and we only have to come in for exams and "wet" labs. But he really gave us no idea how to study the online stuff. :uhoh3: The one plus is that he took digital pictures of all the models, so we don't have to do that ourselves.:) Oh and I also can return all of the lab books they made us buy. As he said, good news/bad news.

I have one question. Does anyone else have a A Photographic Atlas for the Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory by Van de Graaff & Crawley? I'm thinking of hanging on to this to have something else to look at.

That would be so nice to have an instructor give fill in the blank handouts for notes! I tend to try to write so fast, once I get home I can't read my handwriting. :chuckle ......that's why I record my lectures! :)

my instructor has limited leg strength and travels in a mobile scooter soooo he publishes all lectures @ Kinkos-- since he doesn't use the chalk board and talks the whole time. A friend of mine said he only had to add a few things each day. Sounds good to me. I got the "brief atlas of the human body" with the text. It's all photographs and pretty cool. I start Tuesday!! I've only read a few pages- thank goodness this part is review for me and not all new stuff.

good luck all!

Hey Fun2care, I am clueless about the PDA's too, I am afraid to buy one and have it be extinct in two months. I think I am just going to wait till I have been accepted into the nursing program before seriously looking at them. I agree, I HAVE to make an A in these classes too. I start Tuesday with A&P from 9am - 1pm including lab and then Micro from 6pm to 9pm inc. lab. I dont even think I am coming home that day till after 9pm because it will be relatively pointless. I will have 5 hours of non interrupted, focused study time at the school that I can utilize.

My textbook has the study guide but the bookstore was all out of them. :( So I am either going to search for it online or just wait to see if they get more in. I kind of want to wait till after class to see how the professor teaches. That should tell me if I will need it or not. I have the Netter's Atlas and flashcards for Anatomy so I think that should help out tremendously. My microbiology book has flashcards on their website for each chapter which is too cool. Have you guys checked the companion website for your text and also the CD that comes with it, lots of times these tools are extremely helpful.

Had my first A&P class this AM. 8:30-10:55. I have a lab workbook, the text book, two CD Roms and a skeletal reference guide. Back pain is too simple a term for what I felt today. We went over the syllabus, he told us what material to review for Thursdays lecture and lab. I feel like I am going to do pretty well in this class and this semester in general. I am taking 13 hours, A&P, Math 110, General Psych, and English 102. I feel like I am so young sometimes, college is a humbling expirience. Thank goodness I know someone in every class I have from high school and/or last semester. My only major concern with Anatomy is that there is a good three month break between now and the fall semester when I will probably be in A&P II which could cause me to fall out of sync with the routine of studying. The professers at our college teach the first half in A&P I and the second half in A&P II so I can hang on to those books at the end of the semester. I hope everyone else is having fun!

Hey guys, I found a cool website that quizes you on what type of learner are you. Here is the link...http://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=questionnaire I am a Aural and Read/writer type of learner. It was really insightful as to what and how to study knowing your learning type. Good luck and I hope this helps you.

I am searching for other websites for study tips, suggestions and so forth. Will post them as soon as I get a few together.

Anyone using Martini Human Anatomy?I have so many books for anatomy ...ugh:rolleyes:

Also, when you have multiple classes,do you have set time to study each subject,or do you make a priority list of to dos for the day in order of importance?

At most,Ive only had 2 subjects at a time.I bumping up to 4 classes, plus the anatomy has a lab.Ive been trying to bump up each semester.

This semester is make or break..Im so scared!:uhoh3:

I have a 3.8 GPA.But,we have to get a 3.0 gpa on the sciences to apply. It's scary to have that pressure. It's been a long journey to get here. Now that the "real"classes are here...:imbar

Good luck to everyone!

My scores were:

Visual: 7

Aural: 10

Read/Write: 9

Kinesthetic: 8

...doesn't help much. LOL

As for the PDA, my mom always gets us a "big" present each year. I think I may wait and tell here the exact PDA I want for Christmas next year. Of course, then there's the side of me that has to have it "NOW" when it comes to electronics. :lol2:
