i was surprised about the uniforms too. they have great prices on some stuff but then are on the higher end for other things. be weary of buying anything from the school bookstore though. a friend of mine bought her clip board and pen light from there, the clipboard didnt work and the pen light worked for one day. they gave her a very hard time about returning it but eventually gave in saying they would not do it again. they have a no return policy on electronics. (edit name per moderator) is labeled the toughest instructor at wcccd for nursing from what i have heard, however, i had her and let me just say that she is the nicest, most compassionate person i have met so far, besides (edit name per moderator) that is. (edit name per moderator) is tough, but she is also fair, helpful and if you are willing to put the effort she will do the same for you. i remember her spending every lunch break with one lady in our class, tutoring her in medical math. most instructors wouldnt do that. i had (edit name per moderator) for assessment and we didnt even have to count apical pulses. in (edit name per moderator) assessment class they had to do that for check out. her students knew their stuff when they left her class, to where the rest of us were like omg we know nothing compared to them. add pressure to the already stressful semester we all started cramming to know assessment because we all had (edit name per moderator) for clinical. you will really like her. just keep up on your reading, that is all i can say. oh and use the sample test questions from the cd and website that go with your book. those nclex style questions really help when taking (edit name per moderator) test. study your vocabulary words as well. other than that, just have fun! i know you are class right now, so good luck and i hope it all goes great for you!

you are so right about the negative people. i have had my fair share of encounters with negative people and they honestly don't have a drop of self-confidence. so they have to find fault in others to make themselves feel better. as far as the program and like i told rntobe2008 before, the program is doable but it is tough. no negativity there, just bruitle honesty. it's no joke as you sgn06 have seen. if you have (edit names per moderator) for your 110 and 111 you will have a wonderful learning experience. (edit name per moderator) is tough but very fair and is always willing to help if you need it. you will really like her and (edit name per moderator) both! i really wish you would have gotten (edit name per moderator) for your assessment, i didnt have her and i sure wish i would have chosen her instead. you will know your stuff when you finish with her assessment class, but the other teachers are kind of easy but you dont really learn much more than what the book can teach ya. good luck in your first semester of nursing school tomorrow. you will do great, just remember take great no awesome notes and then fill in the notes with your book. if you do that you will have no problem acing (edit name per moderator) test. (edit name per moderator) test are a little more difficult but for the most part they are straightforward. you just have to pay attention to the keywords and distractor words. good luck!!!!!!!

if you have (edit name per moderator) for your lecture for 110 she is going to had out modules to fill in. you can follow along with her powerpoint lecture and fill them in as you go. pay attention to the page numbers for the reading assisgnments. you will notice that if it says 7 chapters you are only ready 3 pages from one chapter verses 40. my best advice to you is to read ahead, not put it off and annotate your text. your nur 111 class the reading is more scattered, basically you are reading pages here and there, you never read a whole chapter. if you have (edit names per moderator) for your lab, then pay close attention to (edit names per moderator) lecture and take really good notes. good luck!

I got my uniform shirts and pants were 20 dollars each or two for 37.99 downtown at the uniform shop that they use for their school patches. They have great deals there on all their stuff. I ended up spending about 100 bucks for everything that I needed to start clinicals. Hope this helps!

Just an FYI, nursing classes were at Harperwoods extension site and not at the actual Eastern Campus. Also Northwest is the the main campus for nursing classes although you can take some at Western or "Eastern" campuses. If you do your first semester at Eastern only your lecture classes will be held there, your lab classes such as Nur111 and Nur118 will be at Northwest. I wish you all much success. WCCCD's program is tough and thorough, you will learn a great deal in a short time. Good luck!

The lowest GPA accepted for our group was I believe a 3.2 but keep in mind each rotation is different. If more people apply with a 3.5 or higher GPA then that will leave less room for lower GPA's. If you are in a tie with another person for the last spot, your NET score is the tie breaker. Try to do your best of best on that NET test. YES it is very very intense with the studying. Join study groups and utilize your time wisely. Yes you have to buy uniforms, equipment like your stethascope, tape measure, pen light etc. What campus are you trying to get into? NW fills up first then W, then E. Good luck for the Fall admissions. Let me know if you get in or not.

The first semester is so intense! I cant even begin to describe how intense it is. The hardest thing is keeping up with the reading assignments for three different classes. We have anywhere from 2 to 3 tests/quizes/checkouts each week. Its OUT OF HAND!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish you all the luck in the world in the fall!

May 31, 2006. Keep in mind they offer a nursing information meeting every 2nd Tuesday of every month at the Northwest campus. It is very helpful and you can get your application for the program at the meeting as well. Word of caution: Be sure you have everything they require when you turn in your application. There were so many students who were turned away because they didnt have all the required documents. They take applications at the application meeting. They started this so it would be more organized and they could make sure they were accepting complete applications. I guess they were having a problem with receiving incomplete applications and then those people would call the Nursing Dept and get upset when they didnt get in. It was very easy and convenient to go the application meeting. I definitely recommend the information meetings though, you will get all your questions answered there but I dont mind answering them here either. :) Good luck!

Some nursing classes are offered in the summer but they are only for those who might have failed a previous class or was unable to take a certain class the semester before. They dont allow you to take the nursing classes in the summer if you dont fall into "special circumstances" catagory. BTW, Your welcome.

You need to have the following completed before you apply. ENG 110 PSY 101 BIO 240 A&P I BIO 250 A&P II BIO 295 Microbiology I was accepted for the Spring 06 semester. I start nursing classes in 2 weeks YIKES!!!!!. The orientation meeting was chaos, with people cheating to get spots in classes during the lottery. It was so sad and pathetic. The DON was truly appaulled by all the dishonesty. I hope when you apply and get accepted it isnt like it was when I went. Good luck to you! BTW, what campus are you most attending? I can give you a heads up on a good microbiology and Anatomy professor!

General Advice Guestion! HELP PLS!
I am so sorry that you over heard your adviser say such things about another student. I agree with future RN, very unprofessional. I highly recommend taking Medical terminology before A&P. Learning the parts of words and what those parts mean really is beneficial in A&P. I took it years ago but was very surprised at how much I recalled when in A&P. As for Nutrition I am taking it now. This week is my last week woohoo. The class wasnt hard, just a lot of work. We covered everything from digestion of each macronutrient and micronutrient, how each one affects our bodies with deficiencies and excessiveness. Fat soluble vitamins and water soluble vitamins. We kept track of our daily food intake for three days then compared our total nutrients per day and on average against the Food guide pyramid. Kcals, energy expenditure and so much more. This class was a lot of fun just time consuming, which would explain why your class is so long. I am sure you will love it though, very interesting. I agree with stpauligirl, although Chemistry wasnt a requirement for my program, I would suggest taking it before anything else. I wish I would have taken it anyway. If your school offers pathophysiology I would take it whether it is required or not. I loved this class and feel that it will be very beneficial to me when I start nursing classes in January. It really put everything into perspective from A&P 1 and 2. Good luck to you, you sound like you are on the right track and will make a wonderful nurse.

This is a Vent! Warning LONG!
No problem Aww now come on thats not even fair. But hey your entitled to your opinon, as am I. You nailed that one on the head. AB and C describes several acquaintances I know. Some are much older and never seem to grow up. I steer clear of most negativity however, sometimes I stick around for the pure amusement of it all. Gets boring after awhile though, ya know. Back and forth bickering, who is wittier than the other...yawn... gets old. Like the old saying goes, the nice guys finish last. Have to have a backbone and stand behind your convictions or whats the point. Your so funny! Well its been fun but I have other engagements to attend to, like my whiney 10 year old complaining she is bored. Hahahaha Boy she isnt going to like my suggestion of "Go clean your room" ooooh I used to hate when my mom would say that to me. Anywho, love your wits Jerico, we could have a lot of fun. Till next time.....

This is a Vent! Warning LONG!
Yeppers, caught that one from the first page. I have no problems with MA's just rude people two of which just happened to be MA's. I was not knocking MA's as some may have taken my vent but to be honest I cant change how they perceive my post. Thank you Commuter for your understanding and eagle eyes. BTW, when I went back to that clinic for my TB test results, the receptionist told me that the nurse will be right with me. When the "nurse" called my name she said Hi my name is "Jane" the nurse, what can I do for you? I told her what I was there for and she looked at my TB site, negative and filled out the form and said "Oh your going to school for nursing? I am applying next semester for their nursing program." I said, "Oh your not a nurse?" She says no and I inform her that she should be cautious calling herself a nurse because some could perceive that as impersonating a licensed profession which is illegal. Her mouth dropped to the floor and began appologizing (l think she thought I was going to turn her in or something) and I told her to stop appologizing to me, I just didnt want her to get in trouble and possibly be banned from getting her license if someone DID report her. She was completely unaware that it was wrong and said she was going to be more careful. I really liked her and didnt want to see anything bad happen to her. FYI, I will restate what I posted before for those that might have missed it. I believe that there is a place in the medical professions for everyone. If being a CNA is where you want to be, good for you; if being an MA is where you want to be, good for you; if being an RN is where you want to be, good for you, etc. I would never knock any profession in healthcare, as I see all positions to be an important part of the whole. However, if you are rude, inconsiderate and condescending in your current career then maybe you should find another career, possibly where you dont have to work with people! Enough said! Thank you to all who understood my OP and could relate. I appreciate this board and everyone on it, well mostly everyone
