What general discussion topic on allnurses do you get the most annoyed at?

For example: My pet-peeve is the "I hate working the floor. What cushy nursing jobs are there that do not require any real work?"

How would you like to respond to these topics?

For example: I would like to respond "Quit being lazy, put your time in, and develop into a stronger nurse before venturing out."

Without being specific enough to identify anyone, please contribute with your thoughts about topics that annoy you the most.

Please do not insult, demean, or disparage anyone. After all- at allnurses we are allfriends.

I'm guessing I'd be all negativity-and-stuff if I answered someone posting "am I too stupid to be a nurse?" with "you certainly are if you think asking a message board if you're too stupid to be a nurse is a smart move". :cyclops:

Seriously.

If you think you're not smart enough to be a nurse, either you have so little confidence in yourself that you will undoubtedly struggle mightily in the dog-eat-dog world of nursing school....OR....you are correct and it won't matter much what you feel about it in the end.

Do people go onto student doctor forums and ask the anonymous group "do you think I'm too stupid to be a doctor?"?!

I actually want to research this.

No, they ask if they are worthy enough to be God or if they need to settle for doing the "Messiah" thing for a few years

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

In the few (13) years of haunting med student/resident/doctor forums and working in teaching hospitals, I can honestly say, No, I have never seen someone post, "Am I smart enough to be a doctor".

Also on the never list:

- Do I have to know math/science/ chemistry/anatomy/physiology/microbiology? After all, I will never use it.

- I have never had them come in, reeking to high heaven of g-d awful cologne. Nor tattooed/pierced in multiple places. Nor wearing long painted nails. Nor insisting that their personal rights are being harmed by abstaining from the above.

- Despite the fact that many come from areas where marihuana is legal, they don't pitch a fit about drug testing. And they seem to fully expect to obey the restrictions that come with the profession.

- They don't whine about the grades required. They don't expect a social life, and plan their life events to work with their expected schedule. They know that there are consequences with tardiness, absence, and lack of preparedness.

- I have yet to see one accuse a senior resident or attending of bullying, even when it occurs. And they do not opine that it is because they are so hot, sexy and young, and the higher up is old, ugly and hagged out.

There a lot of differences.

Seems that they are approaching entering the medical profession as.....professionals? ;)

Hmmm.....

I would also assume, based on the above list, that they don't offer excuses such as "But my child/children were sick/missed the bus/have an appointment" for missing clinicals, missing labs, missing lectures, and being generally unprepared for any of the above.

Or "there are two flakes of snow on the ground and I am not getting killed for a job that will just replace me anyway and my children will be orphans and my dog will be lonely and I am just not doing it"

You are clearly a heartless martyr who wants to see someone else's kids made into orphans and their dog devastated. How can you even call yourself a nurse?!

Because I am old, ugly and mean and I resent the young pretty nurses!!!

Somehow I just can't picture a gaggle of new medical residents complaining that the attending they are assigned to is just a mean old goat who only picks on them because they are so young and beautiful. Or handsome. Nope, can't see it.

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

MY speciality (whatever it is, ICU/OB/ER/Dialysis/Med-surg/LTC) deserves more pay, because, well, we just can do EVERYONE else's job not just our own----but they can't do mine.

We are indeed special!

I don't like fighing among nurses, but I DO deserve better pay, because, well I am better than you.

Apples don't poop!

Yes, they do ... while they're growing, they poop oxygen :specs:
