The Controversy: Mandatory Flu Vaccines
It was one of those "voluntary" campaigns, similar to flu vaccination, that they were trying to roll out. I remember when the Administrators started talking about a "get vaccinated or lose your job" stance. I was in California and man it was going to get ugly if that happened. The Controversy: Mandatory Flu Vaccines
When you have a 99.019% vaccination rate, then the theoretical herd-immunity should prevent any infections. If you put 101 blue chips and one red chip in a hat, then you should not draw out 18 red chips. These were strong, healthy sailors that received the flu vaccine. Plus, I believe the vaccine was a match for the strain that they were positive for. Is it possible that they created a SUPER H3N2? I hope that the CDC drew blood from each one of those sailors and conducted studies to determine what happened. BTW, someone made the statement that it may have been worse if they had not been vaccinated. I defer to my earlier post in which the (hypothetical) doctor tells a car vs pedestrian victim that they were lucky that the car hit them before the bus came along.

Board Ordered Mental Health/Substance Abuse Evaluation in KY
The problem is not the fact that you had two misdemeanors, it was the fact that there was such a large time gap between the two. The board figures that if you did not learn from the first mistake that you probably did not learn from the second. My advice is to do exactly what they tell you to do and do not make a lot of excuses. Your biggest hurdle will be if you are on prescription narcotics at this time. The following statement is the best legal advice you will ever receive: Consult with an attorney with a proven record and a good relationship with the board

The Controversy: Mandatory Flu Vaccines
No, I support neither as both are dystopian and fascist in nature (Think Nazism disguised as altruism). I was just stating the best answer to a misguided question. What we need to do is ask the pertinent question of "Why" the elderly are at such high risk. What can we start doing at 50 to protect them when they are 65, 70, or 100? Perhaps smoking cessation, exercise, and dietary modifications to ensure a stronger and more robust immune system would help to decrease their risk. This is what we as nurses need to be investigating. We need to find ways to prevent disease that do not involve an unproven vaccination being forced upon everyone.

The Controversy: Mandatory Flu Vaccines
I never mentioned effectiveness just attributable influenza-associated deaths. In an earlier post I mentioned that the best way to protect the elderly is to vaccinate the children. They would then in essence have all of the responsibility and all of the risk of receiving the influenza vaccine. Which IMHO is quite dystopian. From Spidey's Mom Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report | Seasonal Influenza (Flu) | CDC A total of 145 influenza-associated pediatric deaths have been reported during the 2014-2015 season." These are influenza associated events. Approximately 8% of influenza-ass0ciated deaths are actually a direct result of the flu. The underlying reason is likely Status Asthmaticus, Cystic Fibrosis, or bacterial pneumonia.

16 years ago, a doctor published a study, and it made us all sick
5 DTAPs, 4 Polios, 3 MMRs, 3 TDs, 3 Hep Bs, and two small pox vaccinations. These are the vaccinations that I am aware of being given and do not count the many that I received at the MEPS. I have been kept safe from horrible diseases thanks to these vaccinations. I believe that this thread is safe because the OP was transparent in their intentions. The other thread of which you speak was a poorly written slant. Did I mention that I have been exposed to measles multiple times before I became a nurse? Never once did I get sick. However, there is a "smell" to it that a person never forgets.

Why did you want to be a nurse?
I was 28 years old with no real job prospects and the mother of my children was in nursing school. She had money left over from the Pell Grant and said I could use it to go back to college. I already had my physics, chemistry, and biology out of the way so I just needed to finish my Baccalaureate and take the MCAT to go to medical school, but I did not want to wait 10 years to start earning money. Nursing school was a fast way to start earning a good living. I thought it would just be for a few years, but I found that I had the knack for providing care. Working as a nurse, I soon discovered that doctors were managers of health and not anything like I had always envisioned them to be. Nurses provided the care and fostered the healing- that was all I ever really wanted to do. Now, here I am, a broken down old nurse with nothing better to do than to share my wisdom on these forums.

The Controversy: Mandatory Flu Vaccines
All studies support vaccinating those who care for the elderly since 95% of all influenza deaths are suffered by those 65 or older. Very few children die from influenza each year and it could be rationally argued that fewer than 50 children die of the flu each year, but that is not the point. Wearing a mask when caring for the elderly would likely be more efficacious than the flu shot, but we are focused on something that has a low effectiveness. Perhaps we don't need different answers, maybe we need different questions.
